:pepper1: :mcrider: :pepper1: This old, out of shape fat guy finished my Ironbutt SS1000 this morning. I went 1050 miles thru Florida and Georgia. I took 20 1/2 hours but that included 2 meals and numerous smoke breaks.

Way to go Russ. The stiffness goes away - after a week!
Now comes the fun part...waiting for the certificate. It is averaging about 10 months right now. :(
Congratulations.

Kevin,
there's no way my wife would have gone along on this. She would have been in agony. Even with the ultimate seat, she is comfortable for about a 400 mile day, at the most.

Nice job Russ. We've had some really good riding weather. How was the smoke up thru north FL and Ga?
Don't get too excited about getting a cert for your ride. I'm still waiting for mine from a ride I did last Sept. They cashed the check right after the first part of the year. I've emailed asking what is going on but didn't get a response. I'm starting to wonder about them.

Rick,
I only encountered smoke as I was coming south on I-75, right about the Fl/Ga border thru to Lake City. I had been worried that I would hit some delays but I had 1/2 mile visibility and just a strong smell.

WOW.. no way could I do 1000 miles! Thursday I trailered up to Fayetteville TN. to my friends house. Friday I logged 125 miles puttin' the backroads, Saturday I rode from Fayetteville to Lynchburg to the Jack Daniels Distillery then over to Toluhoma for lunch and back, taking all the scenic routes logging 150 miles and then Sunday I left Fayetteville and rode up to Nashville for the day and back logging over 190 miles all of this on a stock seat at 5'10" 230lbs... man my friggin A$$ & back are killing me. The ride Sunday night through the mountains without any leather, nearly froze to death. I took my windshield off when I got there to clean my bike and I never put it back on and let me tell you they got some Big ole bugs in the mountains at night and you have to wear a helmet which is hard on the neck with all of the wobble from the wind, not to mention trying to keep up with the native riders up there I was riding with who are familiar with all the twists and turns and me being from florida use to only riding straight and flat... I had to pull the seat outta my butt many times on sunday night after coming outta a few of those turns..
I slept on an air mattress for 4 days, and being the my buddy lives out in the woods I acquired a friendly ole deer tick in the crack of my butt which was a whole buncha fun burning it out by myself in the mirror!
But I can say that I did get to set in and play and sing a song at the world famous Tootsie's Orchid Lounge.. that topped the cake on my wonderful long weekend in Tennessee.. I can't wait until I can do it again next year. The 663 mile drive one way was well worth it as I got to spend some time, party and ride with my ole buddies. man they got some great moonshine up there!
Next year.... leather and a new seat for sure! I still can't believe how damn cold it gets up there at night.. 40's & 50's in the summer?

You could have used a little turpentine to get rid of that little critter. Plus you'd have smelled nice for the barn dance on Saturday night.

The toughest part of the whole ride was the lack of variety for my foot positions. I have the forward riding pegs so I could stretch out some but my knees are the most sore. I see those floorboards you retro guys have as an advantage. I'm thinking that I should get some crash bars and add another set of highway pegs to be able to change angles on my feet. I did make a lumbar support that helped my lower back alot, forcing me into a better posture.
I took frequent breaks to stretch and smoke about every hour. But when I stopped for lunch at the halfway point, I realized that I had been on the road for 11 hours and I would be getting more tired as the day goes on. So I started pushing myself harder, to go longer distances between stopping. I even went tank to tank a couple of times(though that was hard).

:D Hi RUSS, Congrads. your tougher than I thought you'd be. I'd have to think long and hard about a 1000 miler. Been thinking of a trip back to St. Louis but then it would be 1200 up and 1200 back really got to think about that one. My hats off to ya. hopefully we can all meet up again for another ride some weekend.
