Ok guys (and gals). I know I'm late on getting this info out, but here goes.
Lunch will be Buddy's BBQ same as last year. We'll have pork, chicken, sides, lemonade tea and maybe some beer. The cost will be $12, same as last year. But this year, I will arrange to pick up the food and not have it catered. This will result in a cost savings. The extra $$ will be donated to Kingswood School (http://kingswoodschool.net/). This is a non-profit, christian based and privately funded home for neglected, abandoned, and abused children. They are always in need of funding, so I thought it would be a great opportunity for the VTXers to help out.
Here is the itinerary:
1) If there is enough interest, we'll have a morning ride to Kingswood School to meet some of the kids, then a leisurely ride back to the BBQ via some back roads. Probably an hour ride, plus the visit.
2) Around 11:30 to 12:00, we'll eat at my place.
3) Around 1:30, we'll take the main ride for the day. A 200 mile monster that will take us into some beautiful rural country in Tennessee, Virginia, and Kentucky. If 200 miles is too far, I'll have several options that will shorten the ride. I anticipate that with stops included, we should be back in the Bean Station area by 7 PM.
4) On Saturday, June 23, the local GWRRA chepter will also be having a benefit ride for Kingswood, probably to Cumberland Falls in KY (http://parks.ky.gov/resortparks/cf/index.htm). The ride is $10 per person, all being donated to Kingswood School. We (VTX riders) are invited to attend if we want.
So here's what I need:
1) A check, made out to John Greene prior to 6/22 in the amount of $12 per person eating at the BBQ. You can also bring cash the day of the event, although I prefer the check in advance.
2) An e-mail with your name, handle, number of people attending the BBQ, and if you are interested in the morning ride to Kingswood. Also a contact telephone number would be nice.
3) Also, let me know if you are interested in the Saturday ride. I'll have info on that ride available on Friday.
You can e-mail or PM me with any questions.
This should be a special event, and will help a worthy cause. I look forward to seeing everyone on June 22.

Thought we'd check in with you and see how things were going. I did a little trip up to KSL with a few friends from here and Bruce and a few of his buddies meet us up there. Bruce seems to be getting use to his new Wing.. Mo's doing good.. has plenty of part time help from friends. Things seem to be going well for her though but ya can tell she misses Fred. Fred Fest is going to happen this year... I think thast a good thing it was fun last year any way.
So you going to do Labor Day at KSL again this year? We're up for that for sure.
Hows the job hunt going? or is it over?
Sorry we arent going to make it this time but we've goten really pushed for time around then.. but theres always next year!

Hate to miss the BBQ and all the great riding that John will be providing!!!

Richard, I heard about your accident and I am glad your are OK, relatively speaking. If you get to feeling better, you can always bring the Z3. :D
BTW, the Wing ain't a bad choice at all.

Thanks John, I may just come up and ride in the Z3 with Top Down.
I am looking at a 2004 Titanium Silver Goldwing with ABS and lots of chrome. I would prefer the Pearl Yellow because you can really see it better but the one I am looking at doesn't have ABS or Comfort Seats or the Navigation System so it is a pretty basic bike with lots of chrome also.
I am really looking to get one with ABS because I hear it can really help you in a dicey situation particularly if it is raining.
The ribs are still killing me and I hear it takes 3 months before they heal and quit hurting.
Scarecrow

I agree about the yellow being more visible. Have you checked the dealer in Chattanooga (I don't remember the name). I hear they offer the best prices in the Southeast. Plus, they might have the options and the color you want. BTW, I agree the ABS would be a good thing to have also.
You're certainly welcome to come on up. The route I have picked out would be great for the BMW as well.

Yes, it is Southern Honda of Chattanooga and they do have great prices but I was looking to keep it down to around $15,000 so I am going with a used bike and as long as you are patient you can find used ones with low miles that have been garage kept and hardly ridden.
I just need to take my time as I can't ride a bike that big right now due to my ribs. PATIENCE can be a VIRTUE and can lead to the right deal if you just don't get ahead of yourself and become impulsive. I will wait until I get ABS, NAVI System, and the right color. I can add the other stuff.

Yea Marty, I know what yall have going on. And Richard I hope you get back to 100% soon. Do what the doc tells ya. I'm just suprised, that with the large number of folks we have here, thats all that can make it. I know many have to work those days, but if you can work it in, you wont be sorry.
John. I'll be with family in NC at the time of your BBQ and will try my best to escape for a day attend. I'll bring cash.

richard your going to have to get a 06 model to get the comfort, nav, abs package. but there are used 06 for sale with really low milage. 05's had the abs option on any model but did not come with nav or comfort package. hard choics to make.... you call around you could probly get a new 06 with everything u want around 18k.. more than u stated u wanted to spend but all the bells and whistles! a used 06 will be in that same nieghborhood or maybe low to mid 17. Id look on the GL1800 riders for sale board ..

Richard, didn't you have a Garmin on your X? You might want to think about the built in Nav. package. We opted to not go with that because you can't connect to your computer with it and download waypoints or maps from others....
Just something to think about....
(I love the yellow color on thise, btw.... It was my first choice, but not someone else here's......;))

Definitely will get the Navigation Package that comes with the ABS option but will also add my Garmin 2820 because it has XM Radio and then I might add the Autocom Intercom System because it is better than the Honda one.
Decisions, decisions, decisions. Thanks for all the input Trixie & Marty.

I am going on vacation June 30th to Spain so she wants me to stay home and get ready for the vacation (I pack alot of stuff).
If I decide not to go I will let you know so PM me if you are interested in my Clinch Mountain Cabin which is about 10 minutes from John's place where the Scarecrow will be hosting a great BBQ!!!

OK, here is the plan as it stands now.
MM and I along with our wives are going to meet in Suwanee at 8:00 AM on Thursday morning. We will be meeting up with LJ and his wife around 9:00 AM at the BP on Hwy. 9 in Cumming.
From there we will take Hwy. 9 thru Dawsonville to Dahlonega.
Hwy. 60 thru Suches to Copperhill, TN
Hwy. 68 to Tellico Plains.
Cherohala to Robbinsville
Hwy. 129/Dragon to Foot Hills Pkwy.
Foot Hills Pkwy. to Hwy 321.
Hwy. 321 to Pigeon Forge/Sevierville
From there we can take either Hwy. 411 to 25E to Bean Station or continue on Hwy. 321 to 25E to Bean Station.
Jeff,
We would love to have you and Becky join us along the way. Let us know where would be a good meeting point (maybe somewhere between Morganton and Ducktown) and we can adjust as necessary.
Greg,
We are thinking we should be at the Chop House in Sevierville somewhere around 2 PM. If your plan is still to go up on Wednesday, you and Terie can join us there for the rest of the trip.
If anybody has any other suggestions, we are open to them. Nothing set in stone. How we get there is not important as long as it is safe, fun, scenic and enjoyable.
Anybody else going up on Thursday that would like to join in speak up. The more the merrier.
Ride safe!

Damn Craig, that trip sounds so good, I wish I could ride with you guys. You will probably run into some congestion on 321 from Townsend to Pigeon Forge. There may be some road construction. But there is probably not a better way unless you go thru Knoxville. Also the Dragon will likely be crowded cause of the Hoot. But it should still be a great ride.
Maybe we can all plan on a dinner out on Thursday when you arrive. If you let me know the number of folks and the approximate time you'll arrive, I can make reservations at Cooks. Or we can go into Morristown to Ryans (buffet). Just let me know!

OK Craig/LJ/MM, By my calculations that would put you in the McCaysville/Copperhill/Ducktown area about 11ish. If we go to the MiL's, we can leave CHA to Cleveland and ride 64/74 along the Ocoee river then meet you folks on TN68 in the Ducktown area.
Jeff, I'm not sure how much out of your way it would be, but if you want to meet up with me and Terie somewhere around Cleveland about 9:30-10:00 and shoot the Ocoee with us, you are more than welcome.

Yes it is. One of these days I am going to make it a destination for a ride. We stumbled across it last year when we rode from Helen to the Dragon, Cherohala and back. It was about an hour before sundown, but we rode through and then went back to the historic sites down the road which commemorate the birth of the Church of God. The denomination that I have been part of my whole life. Amazingly, I had never heard of this place.

Rodney,
We'll be passing thru Jonesville, VA, Pennington Gap, VA, Caywood, KY, and Cumberland Gap, TN. We'll probably make a gas stop at an Exxon the corner of US 58 and US 421, just outside of Pennington Gap. I am guessing the time would be about 3:30 PM. But that is just an educated guess. Does that help any? BTW, Google says about 260 miles between Mineral Wells and Pennington Gap.
