hello
I am pretty new to this motorcycle thing. I am looking for a little help if anyone has the desire. purchased a 1300c last week gotta take it in for 600 mile service, that I can handle. I am not used to wrenching on bikes and got as far as taking off the tank and the air filter down to the carb. after that I am kind of afraid to dig much deeper without someone who knows a thing or two about bikes. I have a kury pro-r intake ordered and have done the clayton mod. so I am assuming the carb will need to be rejetted, with the new airflow. getting a price from the stealership. to add the instal of the intake (i am sure I can handle) and the rejet( kinda worries me) to the 600 mile service boosts the cost up to like $750. which is crazy. so anyone willing to give me a hand a teach me a few things it would be very nice. of course there will be some beers and a little (and I must make sure its clear LITTLE) amount of cash I am willing to pay for your time and help.
any advice would be nice
thank you
Jere

no, not sure who el broacho is... so guess i am not related. MnXRider huh? I don't mean to be a pain in anyones butt. my god what they want to charge for that install is crazy though. I don't see how its really going out of the way to add the intake when they will have the bike apart enough to get at the valves anyway. I can understand the jetting of the carb but still, rat bastards. I have no problem wrenching on my car, but with a bike the safety issues of one minor mistake causing possible big problems, that really concerns me. but I really want to learn. and I don't really see a stealership letting you in to watch for insurance purposes. I can pick up the book but its still not quite the same you know. this board seems to be REALLY helpful and I wish to one day contribute but for now I have some learning to do.
thanks again

I am sure I can help you out. Don't bother with the kury jets or buying a dynojet kit though. The scars mod seems to work well. When you get the kit in and want to install it, let me know. Seems like your stealer was going to charge about $500 to install that intake, because the 600 miles service seems to run about $250. If they don't adjust the valves and say they just "listened" to them, I would ask for the charge to be less. Why pay for work that didn't get done!! Feel free to PM me and we can talk more. I leave for canada tomorrow night, and won't be back till sunday though....

Well I dug into it took about 2 1/2 hours... thats including the learning curve... can't believe the stelership wanted close to $500 for that... I have the stock exhaust with the clayton mod. I only had one problem with the carb. the scar method makes complete sense once you dig into the carb. but I could not for the life of me get the bottom Phillips screws out to shim down the main jet. they are in there TIGHT! i started to strip one of them a little bit and decided to wait on that. so.... it still needs a shim.... maybe. I decided to take her for a little test run sputtered around till it was good and warm then took it down the freeway. killed the engine and the plug seems to read ok. I don't really want to ride it though till someone else can confirm it is not too lean. but it seems to be running fine. just a tad tad bit doggy at very low rpms than it was before but barely even noticeable. seems alright in the decal as well no backfiring. I don't know maybe I got it. I would just like someone to double check. for my own piece of mind.
thanks jere

the screws should be coming off the top of the carb

I got the top apart and trimmed the plastic nub under the spring so the float needle can travel upwards that little bit more. thats about all I have done.

The shim should go under that needle
