The "A Reason to Ride" Bike Run Committee is pleased to announce that it will be conducting its 6th Annual Flag Day Bike Run - A REASON TO RIDE on Sunday, June 13th, 2004. The Bike Run proceeds go towards helping needy veterans in Connecticut. An ever growing event, last year's run hosted over 1,400 motorcyclists for this worthwhile activity. Registration is $10.00 per person and is from 10:00am until Noon at the Jewett City Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 10,004 at 263 Taylor Hill Rd (860-376-5226). The Run will commence at 12:30pm SHARP, RAIN OR SHINE with a Blessing of the Bikes as the riders leave. The 48 mile Bike Run will last approximately one hour and be led by the CT State Police and a special "Uncle Sam" rider. Additionally, the Run will have a Red, White & Blue bus carrying Veterans, a camouflaged pick-up, and the U.S. Naval Submarine Base Color Guard - "The SILVER DOLPHINS" will be present for the lead off as well as a "chase trailer" following behind should any motorcycles break down. The Ride will conclude at the Plainfield VFW Post 5446 on 7 Winsor Ave in Plainfield (860-564-5446) with food, beverages, raffles, and door prizes. There will be a DJ (Tons of Tunes) at the beginning and end of the run as well as the outstanding, 9-piece, Rock 'N' Soul Revue band at the end. Bikers, riders and non-bikers wishing to partake of the festivities are ALL WELCOME. In these times, it is especially important to remember ALL of our Veterans, past and present. Many of whom are now Firefighters, EMS Personnel, Police men & women, and OUR local heroes everywhere.
For all well-wishers who wish to see this awesome event and show their support, the route of the motorcycle run will be as follows: Leave JC VFW at 12:30pm sharp, Left down Taylor Hill Rd, Left onto RT 12, Left onto RT 138 to Voluntown, Right onto RT 165, through Preston into Norwich on East Main St, Right at Burnham Square onto RT 12 North (Lower Greenville Rd), through Taftville, Left onto RT 97, Right onto RT 169 (So.
