Has anyone on this board took a ride on the Scenic Highway 7 up through Harrison?? I'm wanting to make this ride but am wondering what the best way to go about it is, since Highway 7 runs from Missouri into Southern Arkansas. I live in the Batesville area and just wanted to make a one day ride and see the prettiest part of it. Any input on this would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have rode up to Harrison several times and just Monday I rode down to Arkadelphia and other than riding through downtown Hot Springs & Russellville its pretty hard to beat. Later, B.P.

I hope I'm not butting in where I'm not wanted, but I'm an old Arkie, born in a farm house outside Dover, Arkansas and was wondering how big Dover and Russellville has become. I hope to ride my VTX there from here in Washington state someday. My parents moved away when I was 6 so I can't remember too much about the area. I do remember the storms though. I envy you folks who live there. From pictures I have seen its an awesomely beautiful place. I'm glad you all made it home okay. take care.
I am sure Big Poppa can tell ya about Russleville for I live down in Hot Springs...Thanks for the well wishes about the storm....it was quite the deal. Since I did survive okay, I can now say that I am greatful for the experience...When you come down this way let us know and we'll do some riding..The reason we were out there the other day was to ride with Woot from Illinois down to meet his kin folk...We dont need much of an excuse to ride. Take care man...K-dog

I just moved to Dover from Vicksburg, Ms. The town is still small by most standards but very lively. There is a nice well stocked grocery store, a nice place to eat called Dewaynes, a small shopping center with a dollar store and a feed store/hardware store, two banks and two gas stations. The people there are down to earth country folks, (in my opinion the salt of the earth). They just recently built a new high school that seems to be very nice. Chicken farms are numerous as well as cattle operations and hay farming. You should take a lttle trip back and check it out. Hiway 7 is absolutely beautiful, it crosses the Buffalo River, is almost constantly twisting and turning and I have never ridden it when there was a lot of traffic. There is a little town about half way between Harrison and Russellville called Jasper where they have introduced a lot of elk into the wild and they are becoming quite visible. There are a ton of things to see up and down 7, there is a "natural bridge" about 20 miles north of Dover, Long Pool campgrounds and canoeing on the Big Piney River. (As you can tell I love the area) I ride my bike into Russellville almost every day on 7 to make a living and fall more in love with the area on every trip. People can say what they want to about Arkansas but this is a beautiful and friendly place to live. Russellvilles population is around 25,000 and I'm not sure about Dovers population, I'd say around 5 to 7,000. Anyone looking for a nice ride should consider hiway 7 from Harrison, Ar down to Hot Springs Ar. You can check out the Bass Pro shop in Branson Mo on your way down. Later ... I hope I wasn't "butting in" but seen an opportunity to brag on my new home and took advantage of it. Pedro :beer3:

Hey Pedro and anyone else interested, If elk is what your wanting to see then you need to go to Jasper and right after you cross the Little Buffalo River you hang a left(I forget the hwy#) go about 20 miles to a little town called Ponca the road T's there and you take a left there heading towards Deer and just watch to your left they are usually out between the hwy and River. I've seen as many as I could count before out there, they're like cows and just stand there. But the most important part about it is that it is an AWESOME ride getting there. Later, B.P.

BP...you are absolutely right...this is some awesome country to explore. Ponca is a very small place, but in Boxley Valley (I think that is what it is called) is where the Elk are...and they graze almost every morning and every evening.

These were taken last September when a group of us guys rented some cabins to go hiking and shooting pics. Wished I had been on a motorcycle...would have been an awesome ride.

Hey Wally the place I just described is in fact Boxley valley. Last years state VTX ride was to Harrison and we were gonna head down that way but it was just to cold as the day went on but of course it was in March and those mountains get chilly for sure. When we started out the guys asked me where we were going and I told them Wal-Mart well when we hit them mountains it got quite cold and quick I might add they knew I had pulled one over on em. We decided to go at it another time when it was a little nicer. I dont know the numbers of the roads up there I just know the roads themselves. My mother lived in Compton until last year and I've had family in Jasper, Kingston, Alpena, & Ponca so I am pretty familiar with a lot of those little towns. We need to get another state ride together up there sometimes. The weather would be more cooperative now. Later, Dave

Dave,
Sounds like fun...but like your friends...I am ALLERGIC to cold weather. I STILL remember the last time (about 15 years ago) I rode in cold weather...probably about 35 degrees and my THIGHS literally FROZE...I hated that feeling...and when they thawed...they ITCHED so bad.
Prefer comfortable weather, but would LOVE to make a ride in them thar parts.
