My bike has 324 miles on it. I went to make a Post Office run and the bike would not run without partial choke. Even when it was warmed enough to run the fan. It is coughing, sputtering, and back firing. I let it run for about 4 or 5 minutes before I started out, but every time I attempted shutting the choke off it would stall. Any ideas?

Hi Neon,

First of all, welcome.

These bikes hate the choke, and if you are using it at all during the warm weather, you may have fouled the plugs. You can pull them, clean them, and try to stay away frm the choke. I almost never use it unless it's really cold.

If you still have a problem, try posting this on the 1300 board, where it will get more attention and there are guys who know a whole lot more than I do about these things...good luck & ride safe. :)

Ok ... I pulled the plugs and they were black. I cleaned them, although I don't have a blaster, and put them back in. I fired it up and it spit out some black smoke but is still running very rough and wants to shut off. Should I try a set of new plugs?

I took it out on the bypass and let the big dog eat ... it smoothed out and is now idling fine. Thanks for all of your help. The weekend is going to be beautiful and I was getting worried that I would miss out.

Cool...I thought that might do it. Ride safe.
