Fred,
I assume a position in Central or Western Pa would be too far a commute for ya ???
Actually, if you still want to work a few more years, why retire? You realize you probably won't make nearly what you are making now in a new job starting over. And if you work a few more years and bank that money (or invest it) you will probably be better off. But, if you will have your retirement and want to start a new career, that's a good choice too. If you just want to putz around somewhere a few days a week (Tues, Wed and Thurs), and keep your Friday - Monday weekend available, I'm sure you can find something to help occupy your time in retail (maybe a motorcycle shop or some other place you might find interesting).
I'm retired from the Navy and work in a Hobby Store 3 days a week. It's a pretty nice job and helps keep me occupied, and I can take off when I need/want to. Plus I have a side job or two now and then. I have yet to figure out my ideal job but it would definately be only 2 or 3 days a week, regardless what it was.

I'm retired from the Navy ...
I can't tell you how many times that I have kicked myself over the years for not staying on Active Duty and doing 20 straight years. I can't blame all of it on the first wife (even though it would be pretty easy), I was young and stupid and didn't get advice from both sides of the fence. I have my 20 in now but can't collect that retirement pay until I'm 60 (unlike the guys who retire from active duty and collect right away). Oh well, live and learn, right?
I have an older "smarter" brother who retired as a Chief after 20 years. He owns his own business now, works when he wants, and generally does things his way. What a life!

Terry, Yep I could kick myself sometimes too, since I was up for LCDR when my 3rd wife dangled retirement or divorce in my face. Unfortunately (or fortunately as the case may be).... she was gone before my retirement.... but it was too late for me to pull the papers. If only I had followed my heart (to stay in of course... ). Do you realize how much more in retirement I could be making as an 04E(or maybe more) instead of an 03E..... oh well. At least none of em got a finger on my retirement

My ex and I were going through some protracted negotiations during the divorce with regards to the house and retirement and such. At one point she brought up my Navy retirement pay. I said what retirement pay? (this was before I had completed 20 years) I don't know what you are talking about. She got all mad and said I needed to account for her portion of my retirement pay. I told her that at that point there was no pay coming because I hadn't finished 20 years. She said, "You mean to tell me you would quit before you finished 20 years, just to spite me?" YEP! She stopped barking up that tree. To this day, whenever something comes up with regards to transportation or schedule changes, etc..., her side of the conversation always ends with "How am I going to be compensated for this?"
