well finally after a long week at work I can write about my Sturgis trip. well for 1 thing I will never forget Blue Earth Minisota, came across a bike accident, must have happened about 30-45 seconds before we got there. A guy named Larry went down hard, no helmet, didnt look to banged up, small cut on his head a 2 smalls ones on each hand. There was already a nurse on location thank god. Had to roll him over on his back, he was face down in tall grass and mud, he was out cold, told the nurse that me and my partner were trained in cpr/first aid so we rolled him and checked his vitals...ok so far, PD showed up and now just waiting for FD..Larry started coming to and then started to get up, had 45 people holding him down, strong old guy. Then he started to complain that he couldnt breath, o great and then he started going down hill from there, lost his pulse than his breathing, started CPR with the nurse giving compressions and John breathing into the 1 way mask, thank god I took the blood born pathogen/first aid and water gel kit from work{ thanks ConEd}. about a minute later ems showed up and they incubated him w/ oxygen and then used the AED, I think they brought him back and then life flight showed up, landed right there on highway 90 east bound..Have a call into Blue Earth Min PD to see if Larry made it.....I"ll let you, I have been taking cpr/first aid since 8th grade and this is the first time i have ever used it. I guess training pays off, felt like second nature, no heavy breathing, didnt forget anything, no addrenaline rush and felt like slow motion...hopefully he made it but I know he has to have broken ribs....enough about that...

Sturgis time, caught the last day of sturgis 8/11 saturday and the place was about half full, sunday was almost empty and monday was a gost town. My aunt and uncle rode in from Missula Montana so we hung with them and did all the sites...My Rushmore, Crazyhorse, Needles, Town of deadwood Custer state park and then to Badlands..I tell you what guys, if you get the chance, get out there and go to Needles, do Rushmore and Crazyhorse and then to Needles...it was awesome..My aunt and uncle used to live in Waxhaw NC and have done deals gap and the Dragon and they even said Needles is better, just the views are spectacular, the woods are clean and not overrun with brush Like NY. Wildlife everywhere, turkeys, Antelope, Prariedogs, and the best was seeing to Buffalo up close...about 15 feet from the bike...glad I didnt look appetizing to him...lol.....have to post some pics but you guys have to walk me through it or post them for me.....all I can say is thank god I kept a cool head and remembered all my aux police training, cpr/first aid. I think I would do it again on someone I didnt know and the funny thing is, every year we take it at Coned, its a requirement, we all say that we wouldnt do it on anyone except for family, friends and coworkers but I think this changed my mind..............ride safe guys...........Dallas

Well, the Blue Earth Min Police chief called me tuesday morning and he told me the guy passed away in the copter on the way to the hospital...tried my best..Chief Hanlin was a really good guy, asked me how I liked Sturgis and when I was coming back to visit..was very impressed with how long I have been doing CPR and First aid and also being with the Aux police dept for 24 years. Hopefully he will still be the Chief next time I get out there in a couple of years........Dallas

Dallas... Well I am sorry to hear that news... you have to know that you did all that you could and it is sad that we all have our time to go.

It is just real important that when you do go that you are sure where that is.....
