I am planning a short ride 400 miles, to my in-laws in KY. My purchase of a motorcycle tunes kit has been put on hold until after Christmas. I want to listen to music while I ride. So my questions:
Q: Are there any laws that prevent me from putting my ear buds into my ears, my helmet over that, and plugging into my MP3 player?
Q: If yes is it enforced?
Q: If yes is it all states?
Any information would be very helpful. Links will help as well. I am going to post this over in the Electronics Group to see what they say.
Regards and TIA

I'm not sure, but guys I ride with all the time have I-Pods in while riding - even around police and nothing has been said. I know it's illeagal to drive a car with earphone on though.

Illegal in Ga. I have never seen it inforced.

i think there are a couple states that don't allow it.
its tied to the cell phone ordinances. Like 'no talking on a cell phone while driving.'
I use a mp3 and buds all the time.
Maryland comes to mind as one of those states, but I'm not sure on that.

It's one of those things that's probably not enforced nearly as often as it should be. Get a LEO in a bad mood, you're getting a ticket. In an accident with ear buds in, ditto. (Sure, I ride with headphones in occasionally....).
Here's a handy link for nationwide laws.

I can say with 100% certainty that you will never get in trouble if you don't get caught... be careful and don't do anything stupid...
Whether it's enforced or not, depends on the one that pulls you over I guess, but the laws can be seen State by State by Googling "Motorcycle Laws by State". Their are numerous links on that page. The states vary a lot with their laws. You'll just have to chance it like most of us.

I was pulled over one a year ago. I was able to palm out my earbuds when I took the full face helmet off. no ticket.

Yes it is illegal in GA to wear headphones. Yes I wear mine 99% of the time. The one time, I got stopped on the bike, I didn't have them in. Odd thing is, I'm don't think it's illegal to wear earplugs, so if anyone says anything to me, I will speak of the earplugging aspect of my Shure e3c's and the saving of what's left of my hearing. Besides, I can cut off the music pretty quick as well as pop the plugs outta my ear.
