Yes it is that time of year again boys and girls. Who will be crowned the Chili champ this year?????

When: Saturday December 1St.
5:00 pm until ???

Where: Doyles Pub

Same as all the years in the past, bring a gift for the gift exchange. Guys buy for guys, girls buy for girls. You do not have to bring a gift, those that do will be part of the gift exchange.

Bring your best Chili and take home the coveted hand carved Riley modified canoe paddle for a year of bragging rights. I think we need to make a new rule that the winner must carry said paddle on all WIVO bike trips for the year

There will also be a band that evening if turnout is going to be good enough. No excuses, the event is being moved to a Saturday evening to make it a little easier to attend. Lets do it like we have in the past and have a huge turnout of WIVO's!!!!!!!!!

If you are planning to bring chili, please let me know. Come on boys and girls, post up and let us know if you can make it....what a better way to kick off the holiday season!!!!!

Not so fast, I've grown rather fond of having that paddle hanging around (no pun intended). I will be bringing chili not just the paddle.

Um, Mike, having attended a couple of these chili contests, I don't ever believe that they were a specific WIVO event, just a Doyles Pub event that usually took place on the Sunday of the Bears/Packers game. As far as the "There will also be a band that evening if turnout is going to be good enough", well, that's kinda like putting the cart before the horse isn't it?

Ummmm, the Chili Cookoff has always been a WIVO event, I know because I was the one that suggested it 3 years ago. It has also been tied into the WIVO XMas party, the Bears / Packers game was just a day that seemed fitting to have the Chili Cookoff and Xmas party, since both states (Wisconsin and Illinois) would have some entertainment they would both have an interest in.

As for the band, I dont get your point But let me be a little clearer. If enough people reply here, that they are going to make it, then a band will be provided for your entertainment. If you are insinuating this has something to do with just getting people to Doyles so they can make money, I would suggest you think back to all the free food etc. that gets provided, hardly a profit making event for Doyles.

This is a WIVO event, not tied to any other event scheduled for that day. I will say though that after seeing all the views and the lack of response, it is a bit sad

Let's not get caught up in semantics here boys.
For those that do not want it to be known as a WIVO event, fine- for those that do, that's fine too

But, seeing as it always gets posted on the boards here, and before it got posted here, there WAS no chili cook-off/X-mas party leads me to think that it's a WIVO event, doesn't it? Not that it matters- either come on down, or don't- no pressure.
Holly and I will come down and enjoy the evening- I'll have to find a new recipe to try out and find a winner seeing Greedy trumped by "former winner" white chili last year!

Band or no band- no difference to me- I think I might prefer no band IMHO.

As far as a money maker- Jeanne has ALWAYS rolled out the red carpet for us. We probably still OWE HER!!

It's all good :D

I'm new to the Boards since the summer, so I haven't participated in the WIVO VTXmas party, but what's wrong with a Bar making some money on a group? That's kind of what they're in business for.. Looking at the threads it seems some are concerned more with their pocket books than the good times and commeraderie that this group enjoys.. I'm a member of several groups that have Xmas parties and none of those members think twice about paying for dinners, etc.. I guess I just don't get it about making a statement about just getting a group together to make someplace money...

I really dont think it is about money, heck it's not like Doyle's is located in the lobby of the Ritz Carlton or something. In fact it would be hard to find a place any more accomadating than Doyle's has been to this group for the past 4-5 years.

I was the one that called Jeanne and asked if she was interested in doing this again this year. She left it to me to see if anyone wanted to continue on with the tradition, so I did. Not a big deal. As Riley said, those that want to come are welcome, those that dont...Happy Holidays to you too. Not a big deal and certainly no hard feelings either way.

Well, I must say, since getting my VTX in May and finding the VTX site this past Summer, I have met and rode with alot of you and it has been my pleasure.. I look forward to meeting more of you and am planning on attending as many WIVO events and rides as I can. That's why I'm helping Caps with the rally next summer. I think anytime someone from a group takes the time and effort to do something, I try to support it as best I can. It's all about the riding and fun we have together that makes it fun for me.. Like Homer"s Illiad and Odessey, It's not the destination... The journey's the thing...

OK, here is what I have so far in regards to who is bringing chili:

DMjeff
Greedy
Riley
Kirkmfg
Acrotech
Condolini (maybe)
VTX Vixen

I should mention that you should bring your chili in a crock pot so we have a way to warm it up. Also bring along any toppings you want served with the chili like your choice of graded cheese, sour cream, peppers etc.

Come on all you chili freaks, get on the list :pepper1:

I'm still planning on coming with the chili, but in the Milwaukee area they are calling for impassible roads for Saturday afternoon and evening. If that's the case. I won't make it. A little snow won't keep me away, but supposedly there'll be ice, rain, snow and ice again. The radio was saying that people should stay inside and stock up and blah, blah, blah. We'll see I guess.
