Since I will get a chance to feel out all you fellow Dakotans sense of individuality and acceptance...
NO I'm not gay
But I am waiting for stuff to arrive to put a Neo rear fender and some 1.5" 16" apes and the phat fork kit on my F...
:D :D
Should be sweeter than ***** when it's done.... If I'm imagining something that turns into a turd... well, I'll have some stuff for sale in the next few weeks!
So, aside from the typical "F model purist" faction AKA, No bags, no windshield yada yada yada belong on an F....
Whatcha think? :D

Yup!
Believe me, pics will be up when I get anything done!
Fender should be here first... I got lucky and found a silver one that should be close enough to put on and make sure it's going to come out like I hope... if the paint is actually a match I should be able to track down some mimic tribal graphics to put on it and clear over to finish blending with with the rest of the tins...
Got the bars and risers here... throttle cables should be on the way and if it weren't for Viking going under, or at least using that as an excuse to... well see my sig. I'd have the brake and clutch lines already...
I'll be sure to update as changes are made... hopefully HDL ships my parts soon! :D

nodakbassmaster

that'll just be the fender.. still have the bars and lines to do...
I try and ride all winter... no big projects to keep the bike in pieces!

Fender and extended throttle cables got here today.
Unfortunately the fender is not the same color as my bike as I had been hoping. It's the titanium silver, not the silver.... guess I'm gonna have to order some paint and maybe a new front fender then...
Oh well, it's going on anyway so I can see how it looks before I go any farther!
Well now that your painting the fenders you might as well take off the rest of the tins for a custom paint job to go with your new bars. After you do that you might have to add extra chrome to set off the paint...
hmmm, now who's bike is going to be apart all winter

Nope, I will paint the fender myself, therefor causing it to remain simple!
Were you logged in when you made that wise crack?
I'll still be riding when the weathers OK for it... but the bike will start coming apart tomorrow... but won't stay that way for long!

BD is making me a box to french the plate into the back lower part of the rear fender :D 8) 8)
So somewhere around Christmas I will be recessing the plate into the fender and painting it to match the paint and decals on the rest of the bike :D
Can you tell I'm a little excited?
So what say you guys...
Leave the rear fender rails chrome, or should I paint them to match the fender so they blend in?
Ideas for LEDs to mount in the top of the recessed plate housing? 8)

Well theres always the expensive solution... Air ride. I've heard good things about those but to darn expensive. Maybe keep an eye out for a decent used set.
I bet you could rig up a quick mod to take off the shocks for different ones like the seat pin mod.

Yeah.. air ride would be cool, but I can't bring myself to spend that much on it! I might just keep an eye out for a take of settup though!
As for the pin mod, that's very close to what I was thinking about, just with a slightly different type of pin... :D
The downside is I don't know how or have the tools to machine the recess in where i need it to lock the pin in place...

Okay okay, here goes..........................
That looks pretty good 8) The ape look isn't my preference, however, if I were to do it, I wouldn't even think about it on an F without swapping out the rear fender for one that's more robust like the R or as you have so creatively done, the N fender
I've got a buddy over on the Sabre forums that did this with his Sabre. In fact, he piped in over here a few months back while he was looking for his N fender.
Richard, those bars are probably the fattest apes I've seen yet! What's the diameter, 1.75"?
The only thing I would do would be to drop that rear a tad.
...and BTW, good luck with all those wires...

Gettin closer!
As for the grips, if your not going light to light they work great! But if you have to clutch and break a lot, and have short distances you need to keep stopping they don't work quite as good... that's what I've found so far... to work harder on timeing the lights!

when's the big 'TADA!!!!' :?: :?:
nodakbassmaster
04-10-2008, 03:03 AM
No "Tada" yet... had a few set backs... and here's some updates!
the fork tubes above do not fit my trees, so they are on the way back and different ones are enroute...
Glen of VTX-Treme AKA G-man has been slower than ***** getting the fork spacers here as well... Still don't have em after almost 3 weeks... Hopefully he's telling me the truth this time and they will be here Sat..
Got a shipping notification that my saddlebags will be here Sat :pepper1: ... only been waiting 6 weeks for them...
also have some new forward controls on the way that will be here Friday... those are a surprise though (should be able to stretch the extension out to 6 or 7" if I want! :) )
Fender is painted, cleared, decaled, and cleared again... it's supposed to be buffed and sent back to me hopefully friday or sat so I should have it early next week! :pepper1: :pepper1: :pepper1: Can't wait to see how it turned out! :D

HOLY CRAP- First, I didn't realize there was a Dakota section on this board. Second, I just read all 5 pages of this post and followed your F'ing (get it) conversion. I love the new look- incredible. How does it look with the bags on?
nodakbassmaster
04-27-2008, 11:26 PM
Thanks, the bags aren't on yet... to get them to be quick release I'm going to have to come up with something..... the easy brackets aren't going to work with the inner contour of the bags...
