Well, it's been a long time since I've been on this board. Most of you might remember me from about a year back. Well, about 2 months ago I was laid off from my job as a residential construction superintendant. I've been looking for that same amount of time and have yet to find anything. So, I figured I would ask here and see if anyone on here knows of anything?
Send me a PM if you know of anything and I can foward my resume if needed.
Thanks All,
John

I now how you feel, I do new/remodel plumbing. Tried the temp people like Tradesman International (don't go there). 2nd to last employer called me and put me to work in pinellas. I live on the edge of hudson. So I commute every day, unless we get a job near me and save me driving time. Now Trade Source Inc, had me working in Orlando, good guys. They called me back, but I was employed by then. Good luck . USNR Retired

John - I just want to encourage you to hang in there. I was laid off last year when my company lost the contract I had been working. For three months I literally made job hunting my job; 8 hours a day 5 days a week. It was very discouraging as months went by without so much as a phone call. Then at the end of the third month I got a call from an unexpected source and within a week I am working a better job and for more money. Later more offers came in but I was already employed.
It feels bad now but you've never lost until you quit trying. I know your military experience so I am sure you understand pushing through despite the problems or feelings. Stick with it and you will be back on top soon.
Good Luck and God Bless!

John - I was laid off Nov. 5th. It is never a good thing to be laid off and for the first time in my life I was without a job and nothing lined up to go into. It is hard to stay positive when you see the bills and know that you have to keep going each day. Unfortunately the construction industry and basically everyone else is having a hard time. You seem like you have a solid background and if you can just hang in there, it will work out. If you just need to vent we are here and many know what you are going through. I got a new job and have decided not to take any job for granted ever again. My wife works for an electrician and says that all are having hard times...one of their residential contractors has gone to the Carolinas to find work. Good luck. If there is anything will certainly let you know.
God Bless You!

Being laid off really hurts, financially and emotionaly. Been down that road several times over my 25 career. First time was probably the hardest. The one thing I did learn over the years of having it happen to me on more than one occasion was it closes one door and opens another. As I look back on it now it actually made me a better person. It enabled me to learn much more than I would have otherwise if I had stayed with the same employer all through the years.
Currently own my own business and this is the worse I have ever seen it since moving to Florida in 1980. My business is down about 75% from a year ago. I'm a land surveyor that opted to specialize in people buying and selling houses.
Only other time we came close to something like this was back around 1990. The one thing I have noticed over the years the worse and longer the correction the longer the recover is afterwards. So if history is any indicator once were able to get through these hard times we should see a very long period of sustained growth again.
The newest door that has opened for me is school. Never did get a formal education. A lot to be said about the school of hard knocks. With all this free time I've enrolled in Valencia and start classes this coming January. At age 50 I have no doubt I'll probably be the oldest kid in my classes but I'll be full filling one of my last long time dreams.
So keep your head up and never give up. Things are not going to be easy for the next several months. Many will leave the area and for some that stay they will have to find work in areas that may not be to their liking but it is only temporary.
Good Luck and Safe Travels,
Eric
