Neighborhood looken

Hello everyone. I'm living in the South Florida area, but my company is asking me to see if I would be willing to relocate to either Houston Tx or Mobile area.

Any of you folks give me any input on where is an affordable area that isn't run down. I don't have kids so I'm not real worried about the schools, but fire, police, shopping etc... is important.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My niece lives on the eastern shore of Mobile near Fairhope and seems to be a very nice place.
