I had occasion to take a car business trip with a co-worker who had GPS on her cell flip phone. Since my phone contract is about up I was thinking of getting one, but wondered if it could be mounted to the bike in some way. Has anyone used one of these on their bikes??

I have used my cell phone gps once. Some companies do not offer gps service in "extended" network. I was in the BACK roads of Kentucky on my way to find a small college to watch my daughter play basketball. In the middle of no where it cut off without warning. When I finally called the phone company they explained that I was in an extended network and the gps feature will not work. For my bday I got a Garmin Nuvi 200. GREAT machine. Works everywhere and you don't have to pay a monthly fee or 'per usage' fee.
My two cents....good luck

Buy s cheap GPS.. I have gps on my phone and when you set it up (I believe its free) they tell you they cannot guarantee directions or the reliability of the service. Nor can they guarantee it working in etended service areas (rural) which is where I need it most.
Google mobile maps on your cell phone...
...and a Garmin on the bike.
Been down through cell phone hello and won't go back. :)

My GPS is updated monthly. Aren't the GPS's on cell phones only updated once or twice a year? This is what I was told on another forum.

Not sure about GPS phones (Why do they cal it GPS when it clearly isn't global)?
Garmin GPS are only updated (maps & POIs) when you buy an upgrade.

I have GPS service on my Blackberry. However, it appears to me that it is not GPS based, rather on triangulation of cell towers. In town it works good, speaks loud and clear. Out of town - questionable.
