Curious as to what insurance company you have and their pricing (granted coverages and other factors come in to play but in general).

I had Nationwide on the VTX and Markel/BikeLine on the Valkyrie. Obviously Nationwide was high, Markel/BikeLine was good and gave me a quote for both bikes (full coverage) at approx 650.00 for 12 months. However, I recently got an estimate with Progressive and just aquired their insurance today for both the VTX and Valk (full coverage) for $434.00 for 12 months. Which I thought was GREAT.

I got a quote from GEICO as well... and it was more than double what Progressive was charging me.

I had Progressive when I lived in da 'burg and was paying around $375 per year for full coverage. When I moved to Texas Progressive went up to $650 per year for the same coverage because they figure there is a 12 month riding season down here verses a 6 month riding season up there. Checked with a couple of other insurance companies and Progressive was still the cheapest with the best coverage.

As many of you know I "totaled" my VTX on February 28 2007, I was not charged with the accident. Progressive worked with me to give me everything I wanted and needed to get me and my bike back on the road in better than new condition including some extra medical not covered in my regular health plan and offered to cover lost wages which I did not have. They even called me about a month after the accident to make sure that I didn't incurre any additional medical cost related to the accident.

I prepay my insurance policy which runs from October to October so there wasn't much they could do to my rates until October 2007. So come August I start sweating about what my new rate is going to be. The envelope comes and says "Congratulation becuase of your execellent driving record we have lowered your rates" They lowered by my rate $25 per year so now I am paying $625 per year.

I have nothing but good things to say about Progressive, they have good rates and GREAT service when you need it.

GEICO has been the best for me.

I got a quote from GEICO as well... and it was more than double what Progressive was charging me.

thing with Geico is you need to name two people to the policy. I have my wife listed as well. is dropped the cost by about 1/2 if it was just my name on the policy.

I've had Erie insurance for over 20 years, but they found me insurance thru American Modern Select 1-800-543-2644 which runs about $300 a year full coverage. Erie's own rate was much higher & I could lower my motorcycle insurance even more in I prepay for a year instead of doing montly payments.

My auto insurance is with Erie and is much cheaper then every other insurance company I have checked. They were much higher for my MC insurance though. I tried progressive and they wanted like $1800 a year... INSANE! I tried Geico and I went with them for $220 a year for full coverage.

Of course Markel is charging you more for coverage on the Road King than they did the X..... they have to cover replacement for all those parts it shakes loose and loses along the road right? Sorry.... you led me in to that one.

Seriously tho, I think the cost for shop fees/labor and replacement parts for the Harley is much more expensive than it would be for the Honda. If you don't believe me, go into a Honda then a Harley dealership and see what their shop rates are.

I'm Paying 670 / yr with State Farm
Full coverage 100/300 all ways... 500 deductable 2X

It's the un/ underinsured motorist coverage that makes it expensive, plus
the higher limits.

I was quoted on the Progressive site.... same coverage @ 690

this is who I use now. the bike insurance division is called bike-line

for my 02 1800c its like $439 and that covers driver + passenger, 10,000 accessories, and the fullest coverage, i dont rememebr all the specifics. All I know is I got more coverage than most other bike insurance policies.
I know most bike insurance companies dont cover the driver of the bike.

This is a timely discussion. I just got a quote from AARP Motorcycle Insurance which is through Formost Insurance. I guess they figure and old guy like me is a good risk. Only catch is you gotta be a member of AARP.

Here's the quote:

Type Of Coverage Deductible Limit

Bodily Injury Protection 250000/500000
Property Damage Coverage 100000
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist BI-Unstacked 100000/300000
Other Than Collision and Collision 100/500 Actual Cash
Value
Optional Equipment 3500
Towing and Roadside Assistance

Annual Premium:

Currently I'm paying State Farm $416.78 for this coverage. Think I'm gonna change.
