For a quite some time now, I've been considering and mapping out a cross country trip from Jacksonville to Las Vegas. I'm still doing my calculations for expenses, fuel consumption and cost, lodging, Food, R&R, and any other realistic factors that may be involved... By my calculations, to be a comfortable trip, I figure I'd give myself at max, a week plus a day or two to make it there. A couple of days to check out the entertainment, food, the sights miscellaneous entertainment  many many photos. I think the main thing for me would be the trip itself more than the destination.. This is in my future plans, most likely it would take place in the spring or early summer at some point. I sure would like to have some of my buddies come along, not too keen on doing this myself, but I know it is very difficult to coordinate with work and all. My route, so far, would be I10 out of Jacksonville to Mobile Al, stay the night, From Mobile on I12 to I49 into Shreveport, La., stay the night, then on I20 to Dallas Tx, stay the night, then on I35 to Oaklahoma City, stay the night, following Route 66, Interstate 40 to Amarillo Tx, stay the night, Route 66 to Albuquerque, NM. stay the night, then a stop and a stay over, still on route 66, quite possibly staying at a campground in the Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona, and for the final stretch, across Arizona into Las Vegas, NV off of 93. By general calculations, most of the stretches will be 150+ miles a day, with two or three portions at 200 to 250 miles.. There will be many photo opportunities along the way, of course the bike will be completely loaded down, laptop, camera, cooler, emergency items, etc. I think I have entertained this idea for so long, that I would like to make it reality.. Still working on my cost analysis, but, would anyone even consider such an adventure ? Sometimes, ya just gotta get away......

I'd consider it Thunder, if I could manage the time from work, got plenty of vacation days, almost 6 weeks this year with personal days added in, just need to find a hole in the hectic schedule of all our current projects.

you know man,
I believe I would do this if we got a little group to go!
I'm off for the summer!
Something I believe would be cool to know within the plans, is where all the Honda shops are along the way for the technical situations that may arise!

if you get a good size group to go, and there are a few passengers, a chase vehicle like a van or SUV is great.
the passengers can swap off driving the vehicle and you can put coolers, tents sleeping bags,...... you get the idea.
i did a coast to coast in the 70's, well nashville tenn. to cally and back, it was a life time remembering experience.

Im very happy to see that my brothers would consider this adventure with me... It would take some careful planning and calculations to make it a trip of a lifetime. Lets work on it.. I, however, am slammed busy with work in the summer, but, I can manage to get some time off if needed. Lets plan the details of the route a bit more precisely, with sightseeing and other interests in mind. Imagine a group of us brothers riding through Las Vegas with "Florida VTX Riders" patches on our backs.. Hell yeah !! I'll get to work on the details and as I find interests along the way, such as national monuments or motorcycle related fun, I'll let ya'll know and we can get this plan a rollin'. If there is anything along this route that I suggested that you have always wanted to see, or would like to see again, lets hear it... By the way, that was a good suggestion Overkill...

I think you are over planning your trip. You will find out nothing ever goes as planned. When you start talking cost analysis and mileage per day, you will end up stressing out over the details. Pick a place to go and ride.

Sounds like a great idea! I may consider this. I would need to buy a few accessories for the bike before going like a new seat and windsheild for starters.

Total trip - 5009 mi
Rough estimate of costs, figured short mpg because of them big gas guzzlin 1800s and we could probably find cheaper than $30 a night for sleeping especially if we have a group of folks in the room. Figured food at 3 stops a day but if we get the right hotel then we get breakfast included.
Gas @ 30 mpg @ 3.00/gal - $ 500.00
Days 13 @ 400 mi/day
12 nights @ $30/night - $ 360.00
Food @ 3/day @ $15 - $ 585.00
Total Cost - $1445.00
Don't forget to add in spending cash, whatever you want to spend for fun and games.
We don't need to over-plan, this is a rough estimate, but it'll do for the trip. Probably cost less than this as I said, stack up the hotel rooms and gas mileage, at least for the 1300s is better than 30mpg. Just take off with a direction in mind, when it's time to pull over and sleep, find a hole-in-the-wall and we :beer3:. Get up in the morning and head out again. Lots of pretty country along this trip, I think it'd be a blast.
