I like that...it might cause me some issues flying near the airport on the way to work, but I'd be willing to test dri...err...fly one.

I have always been afraid of a GyroCopter
the rotor is unpowered. its just a rotating wing for lift.
the power is produced from the horizontal shaft and propeller.
So the logic is -- fly low and slow or higher and faster.
Ken Brock was a builder and supplier of these in California. He did air shows in one.
he was killed a couple years ago in one at a show.
He did some mild 'stunts' until his demise.

I've always been a bit of a dare devil but this may be pushing the envelope.
If you loose PWR at 100~200 ft and have to minimize the crash will this thing "auto rotate" (I forget the term for crash landing a heli)

Well, that sure makes me want to rush right out and get one!
Flying this little gem seems almost as crazy as riding a motorcycle on the metro Atlanta freeways....

they will auto rotate
and ur term is correct.
they do have a survivable decent rate without power

I don't mind my feet coming off the ground as long as there is some substantial metal around me. This thing,,,,not enough metal. My brother has his pilots licence and started building and flying ultra lights. He had one that happened to fall from the sky on more then one occasion. Engine was at fault, seems that when he hit a certain altitude it would quit on him. I don't trust single cylinder engines unless there are more then one of them.

I was thinking the true test for me would be having enough confidence in it to take it "off road" so to speak. In other words - get airborne and then fly over the trees, houses and fields, rather than tracking the road surface. That would be the only way this would offer much advantage at 70 MPH unless traffic was stopped. One problem I noticed is that if you are trying to just skip over traffic, you have to have know it is slow or stopped ahead, so that you can get your running start and lift off, since there is no vertical take off. Landings could be a bit dicey if you don't have a clear "runway" to land on. The folks on GA 400 might freak out if you start setting down in a gap in traffic.

That depends on where you put ‘er down….
If anywhere on the metro Atlanta expressways your survival rate
diminishes to zero once you’ve landed safely on the ground.
This reminds me of the chicken I saw who “escaped” his cage while riding down I-75 on the back of a flatbed truck headed for the slaughter house. Strutting about in the middle of morning rush hour traffic on I-75 gave him a few seconds of Freedom. He would have lived longer if he had stayed in his cage.

I would freak out more-so than the folks driving on GA 400!

For your amusement here is a link to videos of the Super Sky Cycle. The WFAA Ch. 8 is the best one to watch in my opinion. It's basically a modern ultra light with a motorcycle type front end. It's no X but it's pretty cool. It costs less than most upper end HD's do and hopefully a little more dependable. View and comment please. http://www.thebutterflyllc.com/video/videos.htm
It was first posted on the VTXOA as a link about 2 years ago, a TX TV station had run it...Lamont linked it into one of his threads, so that might be why the replies are relatively "slow". I think it's pretty kewl, obviously not too terribly practical, but kewl none the less.
