Hey all,

Just curious if anyone would like to help me plan some sort of meet-n-greet this spring/summer. I'd like to set something up over a weekend somewhere around the Sioux Falls area.....maybe one of our surounding lakes/camping areas? I'm not thinking of anything real huge, but basically just a chance to get to know some of you guys outside of the electronic world! Anyway....I know we got a while, so maybe we can start throwing together some ideas on this post, or if you feel like shooting me a pm that would be cool.

I guess what I have pictured in my head is more of a camping type situation. We could reserve a block of camp sites/cabins, get there on a Friday after work, have some beverages :beer3: & a BBQ and just get to know one another. The next morning we wake up and get moving, and head out on a day long ride to???????.....Like I said, just a more relaxed, well.....Meet-N-Greet. so yeah, let me know what you guys think!

interesting...I've got two cousins on my dad's side that live there, I'm originally from Lake Preston (if you know the small towns by Brookings at all)

You'll have to let me know next time you ride down, I could show you a few roads (if you don't already know them)

Another opportunity is in May in Mitchell. They have a March of dimes poker run. It is usually a good time. I'll post the date when I find out when it is. If any of you eastern SD guys can make it let me know. I usually go back (mitchell is my hometown) for it every year.

that sounds good too Black Hills.I'm going to Eureka Springs AR the 8th-12 of May for an M109 ride.Last year there were 40 bikes(first year of it)and around 20 109s.Expecting alot more this year and all are invited.

So to me it seems like the consensus is that we should plan this around either Hot Harley Nights here is Sioux Falls, The Awesome Biker nights in Sioux City, or The Mitchell Poker run? As mentioned in my original post, does anyone feel like doing more of the nature thing with camping, BBQing, and just doing a ride to where ever the roads take us? We can always congregate during the Hot Harley Nights and the other two, but I was thinking more of a weekend event for this deal?

Don't get me wrong....I'm completely down for everything else, it's just that all of those are one night events. I suppose we could always plan this around one of those events and still make a weekend out of it.....at any rate, lets keep the ideas flowing and see where we end up!

I would say to include me, but I have given up on summer ever getting here........ :(

Seriously, I would be game for about anything, my big problem is that I work half of the weekends so it would be hit or miss for me. FYI - We are for sure going to Sturgis this year. A bunch of us will be going the weekend before the actual start, probably Thursday thru Monday or so. I can tell already that picking out a place to stay is gong to be a challenge. I know the area alittle from going to Deadwood and Spearfish, Custer and stuff but dont know about the individual campgrounds and such. It sounds like fun can be had from Spearfish all the way to Hill City.

I think lake herman would be a place to look at. I actually just got married there this summer.....there is a place called Camp Lakodia which is owned by a company I use to work for out of Sioux Falls called CSD. They have a ton of cabins, a dining hall, a reception hall with a stage, and even a million dollar lodge...(not to mention a ton of regular camp sites) One of the best things about this place is that it is considered a "deaf camp" which means that we won't be bothering a lot of people with our loud exhaust! 8) At any rate, this is more of the feel I was going for....I still think we should do the Hot Harley Nights and everything else, but for our first gathering, it would be nice to actually be able to meet everyone rather than yelling "WHATS YOUR NAME AGAIN" over a band playing in the background?! Just my opinion......Like I said, if any of you guys want a hand in planning this, shoot me a pm so we can get going on somthing.......

Another thing to consider, we are dealing with a Bit*h of a winter, I know I for one am going to be overly ready to get this spring feavor out of my system, so do we want to make this more of a spring gathering....maybe mid to late may/June??.......Somthing to kick around?!!

krzkyot

I would be up for an early camp out. Lake Herman sounds like a nice place and its not far for me. Hopefully we can get something cooking. 8)

You guys will have to forgive me.....I was planning on calling a few places today for the camping, but I went to the Dr. yesterday and found out I have a nice case of Influenza A!! So yeah....here I sit, feeling like I got hit by a bus.....at any rate, I should have some details panned out by early next week....keep checking back!!

Alright, here are the plans for the meet & Greet:

We will be staying at Newton Hills State Park. The date will be set for JUNE 7th 2008! I will give you 2 links, the 1ST link will be the main site with the phone number you need to call and make your camping reservation, the 2ND is a map of the park grounds......on this map, look for the area that Cabins 1,2,3, and 4 are in, everyone who is planning on tenting it should reserve tent sites as close to those 4 cabins as possible (to avoid mixing others sites with ours) have your map either printed out, or your computer on while making reservations.....if the site you choose is taken, you will be able to ask for another and so on, until you find one that is available.... A bunch of us from around here will be staying both Friday(6th) and Sat.(7th) If you would like to join us, shoot me a PM and I will give you my # so we can make further plans.

We are not able to make reservations until ***MARCH 9TH***(open 7 days a week) they only allow you to make reservations 90 days in advance. Their office opens at 7AM Central time....I would suggest that you call as early as possible to get the site you want.

http://www.sdgfp.info/parks/Regions/Hea ... nHills.htm (http://www.sdgfp.info/parks/Regions/Heartland/NewtonHills.htm)

http://www.sdgfp.info/Parks/CampMaps/NewtonHillsSP.pdf

We will meet at Newton Hills Cabin #4 on Sat at 12PM, make the ride out to the park and get set up. Once everyone is settled in, we will go for a cruise on all the awesome back Hwys around that area, and possibly stop off in Bersford for lunch. After that....we'll continue our journey to ???? I know it's a bit unconventional to not have a maped out ride, but what the Hell, we'll have just as much fun making it up as we go right!! :D

So there you go.....If I'm missing any details, or you need further info, shoot me a PM.

Peace,

~Jason

Just a heads up....I am going to attempt reserve cabin 3.....I think the tent sites that should be reserved are:

102E
103E
104E
105E
106E
107E
118
119
120

The method to my madness is if we get all of those tent sites along with at least cabins 3&4, we will have that whole dead end area for the X'ers....that way, we can party on in to the night at/around cabin's 3&4 and won't have as many people around to complain about us! :beer2:

planned on purpose to put us next to the Vault Toilets (whatever that means)...

is it limited to one tent per tent site?

It's on my calendar but there are a few other things that weekend...so i may be a late reservation.

banik07
03-04-2008, 07:08 PM
Yeah, not sure what the vault toilets are all about?.....I think you can have two tents per site but you may want to check on that when you reserve.......Hope you can make it!

Hey guys.....so I set my alarm for 6:55 Sunday morning so I could call right away and get my cabin reserved. You wouldn't believe this, but the people who were able to call the day before and reserve the weekend took a majority of the cabins. Hey guys, krzkyot brought to my attention about the food situation. I know some of you that are making a longer haul may not have room for much other than you camping supplies and maybe some beers :beer3: just so your aware, we are going to be about 10 mins or so from the town of Canton. Canton has a nice little grocery store with about everything you'll need. I'm having my wife drive the van due to me having no room at all for anything on my bike. If we need to make a trip, we can jump in the van and go get supplies.

I think we should all provide our own beverages/food, but maybe congergate to cook/ BBQ....I'll open the area around my cabin up for the "hang out" spot.....If the one I reserved is the cabin I'm thinking of, we should have no issues with that......if there is a better spot, that's fine with me.

That's cool they allow that many per site! Like I mentioned before, the ones who are going to be there on Fri. come over to cabin #4 and say hello. I was also thinking that some of you who are heading out Sat morning may not be able to make it to the flying J in time (10AM) what do you guys think about just meeting at Newton Hills rather than pressing everyone to be at a certain place at a certain time leaving us waiting in a parking lot?........I think we should do that (meet at Newton Hills)......if you guys that are traveling from out of town go to map quest, they give you a pretty detailed map on how to get out there.....lets say Noon everyone meets at cabin #4, we can ride out from there......sound good!

Why don't everyone who plans on being at this event PM me and let me know where your riding from, what day you'll be there, and where you're staying.....that way I can make a print off, and when the time comes, we will know who we're waiting for if your not at the campground by noon.

Thanks guys,

who's bringing a cooler big enough to hold those frosty beverages for everybody else :D

PeterX
03-26-2008, 12:16 PM
I might be able to scrounge up a decent size cooler, so as long as we can find a place to buy ice and adult beverages we should be fine.

There still are a bunch of campsites available for that weekend, unfortunately they are scattered all over the place.

banik07
03-27-2008, 08:37 AM
actually, I don't think it really matters where you sleep.....like I said before, we can all hang out at cabin #4

If I remember right, this cabin is pretty deserted, by that I mean, there is not a whole lot to worry about as far as people being around us.....The only thing we'll have to watch out for is our noise level.....Newton Hills is kind of a stickler on "the book" if we're making noise after "quiet time" they might come and tell everyone they have to go back to their camp sites, Not sure though, I haven't partied out there for a few years, they might have pulled the sticks out of their :cus:  ?!

About the cooler.....if you don't want to haul a big cooler on your bike.....my wife will be driving our van, we have two big coolers we can bring, and could even get a third......we could keep 2 full of beverages and one for food? As far as everything we need....it's about a 10-15 min ride to Canton for Ice, Beer/Drinks, and food......we can make a trip or two if we need to, no worries!

Yeah, come on out, bring a friend! as far as thr route, I'm still throwing that together.....more than likely it will be kind of made up as we go, but there will be some idea of where were going. As far as milage....sorry, I think we'll just ride until we decide to head back to the camp site....I don't think it will be to much of a "ball buster" but we'll just have to wait & see?!

Just to let the "non-campers" know, we will be meeting at Newton Hills, Cabin #4 at noon. Since it would be kind of pointless to pay to get in just to meet up with everyone.....you will be able to buy that day pass when you get there, hold on to that, and after the ride, come back to the camp ground for a beverage of choice and get to know everyone.

:!: OH YEAH! If you haven't done so already....please shoot me a PM if you plan on making the meet & Greet, even if it's just for the day :!:

Thank you!!

Jason,I went to Sioux City today and came back up thru Loess Hills Scenic Parkway. If we ride some of that,it is scenic and the back way from Alcester to Hawarden is still a good road(not NEAR as much fun in a truck!!)I will map out a couple more for the ride.

Jason,I went and rode the route today. It is 115 miles from my house in Tea,back to my house in Tea!I went from here, down to Canton and turned on Hiway 11 headed south to Alcester. This stretch was long and boring.I'm going to see if there is a better route. Then Alcester over to Hawarden back to Hudson(which has 2 places for a snack and beverage)back up into Canton going thru Newton Hills. The part where we will hit Alcester all the way to the end was pretty good riding.Maybe we can get together and ride the route and see what you think.

Lets do it man.....if the weather is alright on Sat afternoon, would that work for you? You figure 115 from tea back to tea would put us at about........85 miles or so? I think that sounds about right. If anyone feels like riding more after we get back, that's cool too, we can just fly by the seat of our pants at that point......besides, we'll have some grilling to do once we get back! Let me know when you want to ride, I'm off work most days by 3:00....once I get home and changed you can figure 3:45ish?

I'm usually open evenings as well, you can always give me a call or shoot a PM a day or so ahead of time....I'll message you with my #

Hey everyone! Just got back into riding after a 15 year "vacation" raising some kids.

Good luck getting the m/g going - we should start a SD chapter - I was really surprised there isn't one! If you need help with web stuff let me know... it's what I do!

I would certainly be there for the ride... but I'll be in Okoboji that weekend. THAT would be a great little run sometime, too.

Here is one that I and the wife will be riding in at the end of the month...
