What the best road you've ever ridden on a bike?
Mine has got to be US-129, the Dragon. Hands down, bar-none, the best road I've ever experienced. Ironically though, it wasn't on my VTX. Heck, it wasn't even on my bike, it was a rental 2006 HD Street Glide (nice bike by the way).
I was in Knoxville, TN for work in December of 2006 and had to send the company truck to the shop for a day and a half. My choices were to sit on my arse at the hotel and watch TV, or find something to do. I found 500 miles worth of something to do on that rental...

Hwy 1 to Ely, and most of the roads in the black hills
While I don't know if it was the best road I've been on it is very fun and probably the most fun I've had on my VTX was on Iron Mt Road in SD last summer when I tried to hang with a couple of sport bikes. I probably passed 40 cars 15 motorcycles and defenatly found the limits of my suspension. While there was no way I was going to be able to pass them I hung with them until the T in the road where I stopped for my dad and brother to catch up. I was there 11 minutes before dear old dad showed up 8) And trust me he's no slouch... He could easily run circles around biker chef!!!
Come to think of it maybe thats where I first cracked my cross shaft??? I do know I gave it all she had that day! I felt bad when I parked her, but slapped her on the a$$ and told her we'd do it all over tomorrow

You know, a buddy of mine from the fire department tried that with his wife one night after we were out drinking... :beer2:
He had the same result you did, he didn't get to ride her again for a very long time :!:

Beartooth Highway. Must be done at least once in your two wheeled life.
Closer to home, the Tunnel of Trees Historic Highway in Michigan just south and west of the Macinaw Bridge. Different kind of beauty but as tight and twisty as they come....no traffic either.

or the trip between Sturgis and Devil's Tower WY

But the best twisties I've ever personally ridden a bike on are the Needles in the Black Hills

can you count the Black Hills as one road? I love them all & is tough to decide on one:
Spearfish Canyon
Vanocker Canyon
Nemo Rd
Needles
into/out of Keystone on Hwy 16
Hoping to take on the Dragon this October though...local group of guys that run down every year for a weekend and I couldn't make it last year
Beartooth Highway. Must be done at least once in your two wheeled life.
Going there this summer! Can't wait! :pepper1: :pepper1: :pepper1:
Hey crux that looks like 16A in Custer state park! Awesome road! I was bummed out that they had just oiled it last year when we were out there :x
Needles highway is fun too! We camped on that road the last 2 years!

Nemo Road, Vanocker Canyon Road are also extremely fun to say the least. There is a section near Sturgis that is about a mile of nothing but switchbacks going up the mountain. A real peg dragger for sure. Dang guys this thread has got me going now... Can't wait to get on my bike again.

The Black Hills are a jewel, awesome riding everywhere.
I have to say that most any road in the Colorado Rockies is tough to beat.
The "Dragon may have 300 some turns in 13 miles, but Colorado offers
twisties "all day long", and for sheer exhilaration many mountain passes
of 10 to 12 Thousand feet have no guard rails and drops of many thousands
of feet. "The Pucker factor"
We did 5 days of Colorado alone last year, racking up
over 3000 miles from the Wyoming border to the Four corners area.
Good Times!!!!

Hey man... if your out there around the 4th of July you should hook up
with the Colorado group. They put on a great weekend, and some amazing rides.
My favorite was riding in the southern Rockies, the Ouray/Silverton and Durango area,
alot of old western/mining towns.
enjoy...M.

OK yea,
Hwy 1 in northern MN like MnX said.
The best road in MN.
Hwy 5 in AR like Fred said.
This road and the roads around it are just blast. Ride up into the Ozark
mountains, down into the river bottoms and back up again.
I'm heading there again in May.
US 14 & 14A in Wyoming
US 14 on the way to Cody Wy isn't as well known but they are as high as
Chief Joesph & Bear Tooth with out the traffic. Both routes have high
mountain meadows and all the mountain twisties you can handle.

Okay, this thread makes me want to pull the X out and start riding now!
As far as on the X
+1 on Hwy 1, and the roads around the Black Hills.
Also, the extreme northern part of the UP of Michigan Hwy 41 and 26.
Not on the bike
I have done 14 and 14a on a road trip a few years back in the car and would have to agree with Chef that it would be a nice run on the bike. At the tops of some of those passes though, hold on tight, she gets a little windy.
Hwy 1 in Northern CA
Blue Ridge Parkway and the Smoky Mountains
Hwy 1 Key Largo to Key West
Of all the roads I've ever driven on the Mountains in Colorado were breathtaking. I would love to take the bike out there!
My to do list
Beartooth pass, the Dragon, the Ozarks, Rocky Mountains, Utah, Coast of Washington, Banf, Yellowstone, Crater Lake, New England.....this could go on for awhile :D

Wait, best ride ever?
I rode this Ural in southern France. Went up the Rhone Valley, through
small villages and past medieval castles to a village called Châteauneuf du Pape. (Castle of the Pope)
Met a wine maker there who was the fifth generation of his family making wine.
Great place, great people, great ride ... really crappy bike.
Note scarf, ... bought it there.

Very Cool! That must of been a great ride. Put up a few more pics if you got em.
I just got back from Italy a few weeks ago and rode a bus along the coast from Sorrento on down to Amalfi. Bar none the best coastal views I've ever seen. I would love to take the X there, but I'd be afraid the crazy Italian drivers would run me right off the cliff and into the ocean.

You're gonna love it. Try to hit it early in the morning and on a weekday if possible. Also leading into the Beartooth is Chief Joseph Highway...a definite bit of dessert on the main course. Make sure you have your camera handy and hope for good weather. I've been through there at least a half dozen times and it's better each time.
If you can, head down to Thermopolis and do Wind River Canyon as well. Wow!

I think I found the ultimate ride, but we need to go to the Hunan Provence in China.

Do we rent or send the scooters over there?

Yeah, it was nerve wracking having multiple 1500+ lb buffaloes flanking either side while trying to slip through, making the least amount of engine noise possible. :?
