I am tired of driving around long island every weekend. I would like to do something different than go out east. Anyone have any ideas.

So far it looks like I am going to take a ride to montauk. If anyone has any suggestions for a different ride I would appreciate it or if you would like to come to Montauk, post here.

We took the ride to Montauk three weeks ago, we went on a Thursday so there wasn't any traffic, nice ride, but I know what you mean about staying on LI.

formularvtx rides up state, I almost went today, look at his post.

Within the next few weeks Darlene and I are going to go up to Bear Mountain on a Saturday, will let you all know

You guys ever think about getting on the Port Jefferson Ferry and coming across to Connecticut?

What is there to do once we get over?

Sounds like a good idea.

I ended "no punn intended" going to Montauk Point. Of course there is nothing to do there. They charge you 6 bucks just to park and look at the lighthouse. We went over to Gosman's Dock and looked around there. The ride was nice though. But I like some place to go where I can get off the bike and spend the day doing something . The wife doesnt enjoy riding on the back all day long....:)

I think the Port Jeff ferry idea sounds cool.
Manny -- how long does the ferry take? I've never been on it before.
Port Jeff is supposed to be a good destination in and of itself. Combining it with a ferry ride (we could do a round trip on the ferry, OR ride back the long way) might be fun.
I also like the Bear Mountain idea.
Has anyone thought of riding up to the Bayville area? It's always been popular with bikers. North shore, nice area, tree-lined winding roads, beaches/food/entertainment, etc.

Connecticut has many Historic Routes and long windy roads. The Mystic Seaport & Aquarium is not far up the coast. There's also the Groton Submarine Navel Base, and of course the two Indian Casinos (Foxwoods & Mohegan Sun). Yale University and some of the best Pizza is in New Haven. The Merrit Parkway is always a nice scenic route back into NY. Might be a nice day if you're looking for a change of pace.
