Like all of you, I'm always looking for better rates on my motorcycle insurance.

As a side note, prior to my current job I was an insurance agent with 20 years in the field.

Since owning the VTX, I've insured it with Progressive as I'm sure many do.

I know that Geico markets motorcycle insurance, but the last time I checked, they weren't admitted in the state of NH.

I've had my Allstate agent on notice with my motorcycle renewal date. Until now, they haven't been able to beat the rate that Progressive gave me. Well, the times they are a changing.

They have reduced their rates on the cruisers and managed to save me a little over $100 or 16%. They write an annual policy, with 24/7 full coverage. There is no break down or reduction in coverage for a storage period.

I have no affiliation with Allstate nor am I trying to do a commercial for them. I'm just trying to spread the news.

Maybe the savings on the preiums will help pay for the $4.00 gas that seems to be on the way.

I found bikeline.com gave me the best deal. I had State Farm and cut the cost in half.

Is bikeline.com an online broker or an actual insurance company?

My new coverage is running me $635 per year for 2 motorcycles (my VTX and my better half's 250). Full coverage 12 months 24/7. I think that this isn't bad.

I tried your link and didn't see any insurance site.

Not sure of the reason, be it age differences or the different states etc. But Progressive gave me a rate of $528 with payments or $451 if I just pay it. That is for full coverage for 2 bikes. My broker said that was the best he could do for me. I have no complaints at that price.

That's a great price!

There are so many variables when it comes to insurance pricing. Coverage limits, Coverage for after market parts, credit scoring, driving records, the town that you live in (although I think Progressive has a statewide base rate), HRC or HOG membership, years of driving experience, safety course credit, size and style of the bike, and on and on and on.

I have found that many of the direct writers like Allstate have been non-competitive in their pricing for some time now. Apparently, they are trying to get into that market. It would make sense because, as I understand it, NH has one of the highest per capita motorcycle ownership rates of almost any state.

The bottom line is to shop around.

I appreciate you sharing your thoughts.

Bonecarver: sounds like a good deal for an 1800 and a 1300. Years of experience does make a difference.

I know in my case, our second smaller bike is close to the rate for me on my VTX because she has less than 1 year experience. It'll improve in time. We all had to start somewhere.

Canterbury does have a less costly (possibly one of the lowest in the state) territory code with most insurers. ie. Manchester has some of the highest rates.

Each case will vary. You could have twin brothers, driving the same exact bike. Brother #1 has great credit and say 2 minor moving violations. Brother #2 has bad credit with no moving violations. Many insurance companies would give brother #1 a better rate even with the moving violations. Better credit scoring translates to better levels of responsibilty and therefore lower claims activity giving you lower premiums.

I think the reason my insurance went down because the bike has little of age on it now (05) it went down almost a hundred bucks this year. Its not base coverage either i went higher on on coverage. maybe cause I 40 last year (still think I am 18 though)

I paid $366 last year through Progressive, and got some of that deducted by paying in full up front. I probably ended paying closer to $300
