OK ya'll you know I'm kinda crazy at times. Last year we rode to Connell for pizza at Lee and Vicki's. I'm thinking we need to make that ride again this year (at least once  ) It's a long ride at almost 500 miles for me. I think Redhook said his was just over 600 that day. It's time to condition your tushes and get ready for some long hauls. I'm going to try and see if we can plan one for late May or early June. Last year I think we did it in July and it was hot, hot, freakin hot that day.

Is it too early to start talking???

They always say get it on the calendar early so this would be a good ride :D

NOt too early to talk about it at all. I think we may take a detour on the way home and stop off and spend the night in Selah at my parents house. AS long as things go well enough and I can save some money for it. Now to talk Clint into it.
And May or June sounds better than really HOT July.

Not too early. I'm in and I think Tracy will go this time. I was hot but I'd rather have that than 33* I had today. 8)

Pick the date

What route would you be doing?

The "straight forward" map from Oak Harbor (where I live) lists the distance one way as 260 miles.

Here's the link to the google maps that I used: Oak Harbor to Connell (http://www.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=&saddr=Oak+Harbor,+WA&daddr=47.964181,-122.360229+to:Connell,+WA&mra=dpe&mrcr=0&mrsp=1&sz=8&via=1&sll=47.850031,-120.613403&sspn=1.754702,5.141602&ie=UTF8&ll=47.52462,-120.695801&spn=1.765682,5.141602&z=8)

Depending on when you're considering the ride I would be interested in going.

That is the route except for the turn down to Connell. I run all the way to 395 and then go south. It allows for a little high speed fun before lunch

If Lee will have us again this will be great and the pizza was great to boot. Lookin forward to it and the fast pace we did last year I think it hit 90 + a few times. :D

AS Doc said at lunch today you guys have to really push it on this to make 500. Being a rather big boy is it really ok to push my 1100 that hard? I was kind of nervous today when we where pushing 80+ today .

Your 1100 should be fine. Used to run my yamaha 1100 special 900 miles in a day at a pretty good clip (late 70s). It used to cook the side of my leg though. Boy that old thing would get warm. Saved on food money that way, I just ate roast leg for dinner.

I'll be in Orlando for work from 5/26-6/14, so if we can do this anytime before, 5/26, count me in. I missed it last year since I didn't know when my son, AJ, would be arriving on the scene. I'd sure like to make it this year.

Keep me posted on the date, Jon. If it works out for me, how would you feel about some of us maybe peeling off on the way home in Ellensburg? I am thinking about running south on Canyon Road into Yak & than over Chinook Pass for the ride home. If you want to keep together as a group, that's totally cool with me. Might even bring Nickie with me if we can find a sitter for the day. 8)

Jason - if the date works, you are welcome to crash at my place on Friday night if you want to. I gotta spare bedroom that is all yours if you want it. You could stay Saturday night too if you want as well.

Ron - what the bike is capable of and what you're comfortable with are two entirely different things. Please don't feel pushed to go 80-100 just because the others do. That's part of the reason we generally have a designated tailgunner. It helps if everyone knows where we are going, comes prepared, and has a vell phone. If one or two arrive a few minutes later, it's no big deal. I doubt that anyone is going to push the high speeds for any extended period of time. Personally, I like to go fast sometimes and have been two-up with Karen and Ethan at over 100 moh - but not for very long. If any part of the bike wasn't in shape for it - or if I was having an 'off day', I'd just not push so hard that day.
If you want to ride 500 miles in a single day, it's not that difficult to do, but your ass will be sore by the end of the day - I can almost guarantee it.

Sounds great I'm in! This is a ball busting trip for the hardcore. Not for the newbie or faint at heart. Not to offend anyone but three hundred miles is a tough day for most. To make five plus we will be riding extremely hard and fast. I hear alot of times the pace is to fast and to slow on the same ride. It is time we break into a couple groups for many rides, spirited and the safty minded. I think we all know witch group i will be in.

As southeas/south siders, our decision won't impact anyone else, but there's a great chance we'd want to meet in Connell, eat, and then cruise north or south for the night. We will likely not want to meet others from east side if they are riding that fast.

I just got out of hospital from total knee replacement. My friend, neighbor and surgeon says I won't/shouldn't ride for maybe 2 months... so from 20 March, that means I'm not a rider until 20 May. Even then, I'm going go slow and careful [save my damage capacity for submerged Mardon BBQ pits, don't you know...]. And I'm not the fastest rider in the group on a good day... but I may be the oldest!

But it looks like it could be my first ride of summer, so we'll do it.

And, someone from our state has to look after Jason

Hot, real hot, so stinking hot I jumped in the river near Vantage. But, I ain't going to let that stop me, plus I have a Bad X seat on the way and no woman on the back to slow me down this time (they have to pee a lot).

Hey not all of us women have to pee alot. BUT if you have to drink all that extra water, if you start early your bladder will be used to it.

As the groups get larger, several agendas start emerge.
There will always be the group that wants to bomb over, have lunch & visit for few, then bomb back.
Just as there will always be the group who will bomb over with the main ride, but want to "mosey" back.

That happened last year too, and that's great. The group split up on the return trip. Some staying with the main group, and others breaking off, and doing their own thing goin' home. I think that has happened on every larger ride I've been on.

I believe the main objective is to get everyone over there together, as a large ride.
The trip home can be more personal and relaxed.

Personally, I thought there were to many stops on the way home last year. But that was just me... I like to cover the distance when I'm out.

If you were around last year, you might remember I called this the pizza run and advertised it as a blast run. My definition of a blast run is to blast over and have some time with friends. If you want to take your time coming home that is fine, I'm sure there will be those that like to do that with you. I'm not being an azz, just saying. 400+ is a long day and I prefer to do it before dark  I hope we have at least the turn out we had last year 8)

I don't know much about that side over there & thought I'd spend a day or so seeing what I can see - probably coming back over Chinook - but not too late. Been there - done that. 70mph or so generally works for me. Sometimes I even do 60

Yup - 500 is easy. I've done a few 700, 800, & even a 900 mile day and let me tell you - when you get off the bike, it still feels like you're shaking and vibrating for about 2-3 hours after you stop. Next time I do 800+ miles in a day it's going to be on a GoldWing!

Jon - Any luck contacting Lee & Vicky? Maybe they got tired of the cold weather & went to Hawaii for a couple of weeks.

I would be interested in this ride, it's approx 241. miles for me.

just checked its 249 miles one way for me. and most of it is on 84, the hiway that beckons no hands on the bars while leaning back on the sleeping bag listening to AC/DC at unmentionable speeds.

Last year we all meet at the Chevron just north of I90 at the North Bend Exit. Would imagine it will be the same this year.

Thanks

Here is the link to the current VTXOA Calendar.

http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/VTX ... ?v=42&POS= (http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/VTXOAWA/cal///group/VTXOAWA/?v=42&POS=)

I think we need to zero in on a date for planning pourposes. For myself I have much more scheduled then the VTXOA events. So chances are not good of finding a day I dont have anything scheduled for.

For me July 12th is about the only option. But dont plan for me just a suggestion to start with. How does that work for others????

Thanks
