Hi everyone,

I'm riding from Atlanta back to Chicago, and I was wandering if there's a route i can take from Southeast TN to Louisville KY without taking the Interstates. If anyone has some info on this I'd greatly appreciate it.

Hi everyone,

Yes there is...some pretty decent riding. Question is how much time do you want to do it in?

From Downtown Chattanooga:

Take 27 north to Signal Mtn Blvd. (hwy 127)Stay on that road and go up Signal Mtn (about 5-7miles) <As you go up the Mtn keep a lookout to your left for the Space House>

Once on top of Signal go the speed limit until the other side of town.

When you get to the 'other side of Signal Mtn stay on that road until you come to the end of the road and turn right (north) <still Hwy 127>

You'll go through towns called Dunlap, Pikeville, Crossville (you'll cross I-40), Jamestown, Pall Mall...

In Ky you'll go through cedar knob, huntersville, Jones Mill, Albany, at snow you'll have to go left on Hw 90 for a short bit and pick 127 back up.

Aaron, Desda, Manntown, Rowena, Freedom, Swellewton, Jamestown<Ky>, Dunnville, Liberty, Danville.

In Danville, pick up hwy 150 west. in Bardstown pick up hwy 245. and it'll put you back on I-65 just South of Louisville.

You'll see some GREAT country and roads. I have gone to Danville this way, and took part of this to something else. Each time I wish I was on my bike. It is not a fast track but it isn't turtle speed either.

Good luck.

how long did it take you?

You could take Hwy 41 out of Chattanooga to Murfreesboro. Then north on Hwy 231N to Glasgo, Ky. Then Hwy 31E (or Hwy 31W) to Louisville. This is mostly two lane best I remember. I haven't been this way on a bike but years ago I went by cage. The ride wouldn't be as pretty as KevTn 's suggestion but it's not too bad. Hope this helps.
