I am planning a ride this summer along the Missouri river from the end (St. Louis) to the begining (Helena, MT.). Much of this ride will take me through the Dakota's. I am planning on not overplanning the trip, but if you can suggest some MUST RIDE routes or point me to web pages I would appreciate it.

Thanks,
Steve

I have ridden two stretches along the Missouri that I know are good. Once at Chamberlain, SD take Hwy 50 along the East side of the river to Ft. Thompson, which is a nice scenic ride. At Ft. Thompson, cross the river and get on Hwy 10 which hooks up with the 1806. You take the 1806 all the way into Ft. Pierre/Pierre. The 1806 is similar to Hwy 50 on the East side, but is longer and probably even more scenic with some nice sweeping curves and rides through the bluffs. I am scheduled to ride from Mobridge, SD to Bismark, ND and back in about three weeks. We are planning on taking the 1806 on the West side one way and the 1804 on the East on the way back or vice versa. I can let you know after I ride which side would be more scenic. Maybe someone else on this board has already ridden this route and can give him some tips?

From Mobridge to Bismarck.......it is best to stay on the East side of the river. The road itself is muck better and it is much more scenic. Hope this helps

Thank you for the help. I was looking at both 1804 & 1806 and will look forward to hearing which is your choice. I am planning a late August run.
