View Full Version : Coolant Recovery Tank Cover arrrggggg
Anyone besides me find the two screws holding this on to be impossible to loosen? I'm not a little guy, and I used to hang drywall for a living, but I have not been able to get these off.
Unless these are threaded backwards for some strange reason, they aren't coming loose by ordinary means.

They are threaded correctly. I have had mine off several times and it was not a problem but when you get the cover off you may find it tricky to get back on. I fumble with mine each time that I put it back on.
And mine is an 05 too.

I wasn't expecting them to be so tight (or soft), and so like a nitwit I stripped out the head on the rear one. I finally got it out after we drilled it and took an easy out to it. I went to Ace and bought a couple of button heads to replace the stock Phillips screws. I have no idea why they were so tight. Seems like the right thing to do would be to use locktite on them and snug them down. That's how I'll put them back in anyway.

Mine might have been a little tight but I did not use loctite going back together. You need to be careful with locktite maybe even use the Green, albeit, you should not have trouble with out any.

I'm the guy who needed 4 heat/cold cycles to finally get my pipes torqued down to 17ft lbs. Rowland. I rarely tighten anything to extreme. I always worry about stripping threads or twisting bolts off. Always been that way, even in my motorhead days when I was wrenching on a regular basis. I haven't looked closely at the nut end of these yet, but if they're metal I'll be using locktite and snugging them down, lightly.
You might not want to ride behind me on Saturday, there could be parts falling off

The screws screw into metal clips like you would find commonly on cars.
I when I was working in shops that service managers would come to me and ask "why do you have so many tools?" I replied "because I have broken just about everything that can be broken-hence all of the special tools" especially Easy Outs and Reverse Twist Drill bits.
Needless to say I lived by the addage "Tight til it strips and back off 1/2 turn". I also made sure that I had a spare credit card or two to pay for the broken parts!
Also I have followed several of your Posts on the Big Board and I would say that you are consciencious and articulate. All good traits for a Tech.
See you at the Blast!
Cheers,
Rowland

Tref, these are always tight from the factory. I've stripped my share also
I'll be more careful with the next thing I take off that I've never had off before ;)
I must say I was impressed to find out the cover is actually metal though 8)
