Well, I'm coming up to needing my 600 mile service. Any suggestions on where I can go, and not void my warranty? I've called HOJ and they want $350...and FCH wants $250. Seems a little ridiculous that two dealerships have a $100 difference. After this initial service, I plan on doing my own oil changes, since I obviously don't want to be raped over simple maintainence.
Thanks.

I know doing your own tune ups is easy but I went and got he Gold Card when I bought the bike so after my 16K check up its paid for its self by shop prices but I'm sure I could have done it for far less. Don't know anyone that wouldn't charge a couple of hundred for the “HONDA” service but I'm sure you can get a basic oil change for under $50. I think HOJ has a special during the week on just oil changes. Ask Viper he would know.

You might try North Side Cycle 751 1520 had them change over rims $35 a rim. I do my own oil change and maintainence for 3 years now.

The difference in price is the labor rate between the 2 dealerships...
If you want; You can buy a gold card and like Bigbear said it pays for all of
your schedule maintainence. Im not sure of the price of the
gold card but you can call the delership (HOJ) and ask..The card will pay for
itself when you reach you 12,000 mile service..That's about a $900.00 service.
If you have any questions just call HOJ and ask, They will be up frount and
answer all your questions about any hidden cost and maintainence..

OUCH....just spoke to HOJ....$1300 for the gold card. I know it's probably worth i, but damn!!! It seems as though all the money you save in gas, goes into the dealership's pockets, for their maintenance fees (if you choose to use them). Now I've heard that the first 600 mile maintenance is "the biggie" and that if it's not done by Honda, it basically voids the warranty. Is that true? Or is it still active as long as the service is performed by a reputable shop?
Thanks again.
The 600 mile service is the biggest waste of money, If you want to give money away, I'll take it. You wont void your warranty if you do your own work, just keep receipts. I had mine done at FC honda, and I hope at least that they changed my oil. I know that they didn't check tires or cables on mine.

you need to have someone check these thing and change oil and filter.
valve clearance is the most important thing on the service, next to putting new oil in.
check these engine idle speed after the valves, brake system, clutch mechanism, wheels/tires, steering bearing.
oh yeah, and the all important snug check and torq check all bolts per service manual.
big note: remember valves checked stone cold, trailer over that morning or drop off night before.
the 600 mile check is only a waste of money if you can't do it yourself, or the purchase/warranty agreement was to let
a honda stealer do it.

I did not buy the Gold Card at first...bad explaination from sales. At my 600 mile check, the maintenance guys told me all the stuff they do not only on the 600 mile but every 4000 mi after that. I then bought the "card." I am not bike smart when it comes to valves, carbs etc so to keep the bike running right, HOJ has done their job for me. The only cost I've had (besides pipes, hypercharger, etc) has been the symthetic (spelling???) oil every 4000 mi. I have no complaints. Depending on the mod, either I will do it or I'll have HOJ do it. I learned the hard way a long time ago to let the professionals do their work and I'll do mine. I guess I'm lucky enough to have the means to pay their $100/hr charge. If not, the wife can get a 2nd job to help out (yuk, yuk). I remember one electrical contractor in Ft. Myers who said "you can pay me now or pay me later". Good advice if one does not have the knowledge to work on the powertrain etc on our bikes. On a sad note, I have to drive the car today because I've been on the bike all week. Poor car is sitting in the driveway with a sad look on it's grill. Best statement I ever heard...from the wife..."you want a bike, well go get one". I like that gal!!! After the cost of the bike, the mods etc...she still likes me and my VTX (even though I do get a "look" once in a while when I tell her "look what I got").

Service Manual for oil change on an 1800 is 8k. look in to Amsoil its very good. Im changing mine @ 10k with Amsoil with a filter change at 5k and top her off. I've got all my Avon Venom R tires from HOJ best price around if you get two tires at a time.

Got my service done today. Went to FC Honda...since they wound up being almost $150 less than anyone else. I gotta tell you...they were the nicest and most professional people that I've ever dealt with. So now I'm ready to go riding...on my days off....and with the wifey's permission. LOL
