View Full Version : Guy's weekend

OK - I've mentioned this before (can't find the thread)..........
I was thinking about doing my annual 'head-clearing exercise' and mentioned to Karen that I'd really like to do a guy's night out or guy's weekdend ride or something like that. Just a bunch of guys drinking and partying and belching, farting on an open fire, maybe pissing on it at the end of the night - or whatever guys wanna do.
Whaddya think? Can we fit this into the summer for a weekend? Maybe the women could do their own thing that same weekend? I dunno - just thinking here. I'd appreciate any feedback, thoughts, planning help or whatever.
Personally, I like the coast, but some of you seem to think that the coast is too cold.
I'm a little envious of Dockboss and his ride/time off. One of these days I'll get the opportunity to take off like that. In the meantime, I'd be curious to know who'd like to just go for an all-day ride, cut loose, and get away from it all with just the guys.

I think thats a great idea for you guys to have a guys weekend.
I would love to be able to take off on the bike too. I happen to have LOTS of time to do it just no money to do it. Always seems to work out that way.

OK - let's just make the decision here and now to make this first annual event on August 9-10 for this year, OK?
Let's get a head count and I'm in.
Greg - if you can check to see if a spot is available, that would be really cool. Let's talk about this at the July meet-up in Lacey.

Thank you, Ron. Sorry I screwed up the date for you. I didn't notice until after I made up my mind to just make up my mind - if you know what I mean.
So the head count so far is:

BigRon
Mongoose
Rod-O
BlueFalcon
ShortShifter
Izzy?
.........I know some of you have already expressed an interest in this. Let's get your name in here so Greg knows how many campsites to book, OK? Greg is going to contact the Cape Disappointment park and see what's available. According to their site, we can put a maximum of 8 people per campsite. I'm thinking 3-4 tents will be plenty and if we can get 24 guys to agree to this, we can get away with 8 campsites way out away from the main crowd & kinds cut loose. Each site split 3 ways is cheap, too :)
I'm a cheap bastard, but not as cheap as Nate ( )
Thanks.

A little update for ya. I tried for the cape dissapointment campgrounds but they are all booked. There are the Sol Duc Hotsprings as well as other campgrounds that do not accept reservations and are on a first come first serve basis. So I guess the question is do we just take off and see what happens (which is my vote, I am always down for a challenge) or go somewhere else? I think that time of the summer it would be to damn hot over on the east side so the coast is the way to go.

Just 9 miles North on Hwy 119 from 101 at Hoodsport WA. Here is a link to "explorehoodcanal.com"

There is a few acers with several tent sites and RV parking. Turn right at Mile Marker #9 from Hwy 119, stay straight, last two driveways on the Right...
Nice campground, but not luxurious. Generally I keep a camp trailer and use generator power and well water.

For any north enders not taking the ferry across - and the east siders, let's meet at the Poodle Dog in Fife. It might be good to get over there, get set up and scope out the situation, then go for a little putt for 2-3 hours. Then we can bring anything back that we may hve forgotten or otherwise decided we couldn't do without.
How's that work for everyone? If anyone wants to just hang out at the campsite or go fishing, there's no obligation to go on the ride - just tossing out a thought.
Personally - the Olympic Peninsula is my favorite place in the whole worls and Karen and I plan to live over there after she finishes school. There are a lot of folks (Perigard, Redhook, Shortshifter & others) who live there already and know that area a lot better than I do, so any suggestions for a ride would be appreciated. I've never been to Hurricane Ridge, but I'm sure a lot of you have.
Your thoughts?

Lake Cressent is about 2- 2 1\2. Port Townsend is about 1 45 mins. West Port is about 1 1\2 hrs. Gerbings outlet store (if they have not moved yet) is about 20 mins. There is a North Shore around the Canal but I have never done that ride-don't know much about it. Port Gamble is across the Hood Canal Bridge about 1 1/2-2hr ride. Astoria is about 2 1/2 + hr one-way ride. There are some pretty good places to eat on the Canal, and a pub that is not far from Hoodsport that has a Pool table and very biker friendly. Hoodsport also has my favorite Latte' Coffee House and some of the best ice cream money can buy. There are also 4 Casino's that I know of that are riding distance. There is also Hurricane Ridge, nice ride, maybe road construction (not sure).
I hope this helps,
Cheers,
Rowland

Just a quick bump before heading out for MarDon. I'm sure this will have worked its way off the front page by the time we get back, so here's the scoop:
Between this site and South Sound Riders, we have 8 "Yes" and 2-3 "Maybe".
Greg and I will work out a couple of meeting points (likely the Poodle Dog in Fife & then the Shell station or the McDonalds out by the Roy Y) and then head to Hawk's Prairie and on to the campground. Granted, we still have to work out the details, but there's plenty of time. We'll post the meet points after this weekend.

Got the details worked out. Plan is to have the northern riders meet at the Poodle Dog in FIfe - then ride to the Roy Y Shell station. Then we'll ride to Hawk's Prairie to meet the southern group - and then on to drop our stuff at the campsite. After lightening the load we'll go on a 101 loop ride seeing some of the coolest roads and scenery in all of the Pacific Northwest. Big Ron will be leading most of the time. I'll be riding tail-gunner, and Greg will be in the middle somewhere.
We're looking at having a really good time with a really nice ride. It's going to be some serious seat time, so plan on bringing a snack, some water, or whatever you're going to be drinkingl This has the potential to become the start of an annual event, so chime in and plan on cutting loose at the end of the dayl This isn't a cribbage-playing kinda thing. Plan on partying like nobody's looking & then sleeping in the next day!
Guys - you don't want to miss this one. Hey, if I can get the approval from Karen, you can get the approval from your other half. Let's cut loose and realy enjoy being who we are, withour bikes and making some noise!

So I'm getting excited about this weekend and I was reading other posts about ribs, bbq's, food at other events and upcoming events. Sooooo....what are we doing for food? Are we going to BBQ, eat at a place on the way back from the ride for dinner, etc. Likewise, should we be at the meet up places fueled up ( bike and rider) or are we all going to arrive at the final meet up place and find a place for lunch?
Just your general food questions here. :eat1: :pepper1: :pepper1: :a13:
I usually stop at Hoodsport for beer and alcohol, ice and munchies. Hoodsport Grocery is small, but they have a variety of stuff. Just about everything you need. There is also a liquor store in town...
So far the burn ban is allowing recreational SMALL fires, in the designated fire pit. Keep an eye out for the burn ban sign a couple miles up the hill from 101, right out front of Cushman Grocery (they have alot of stuff too, but a bit more expensive).
This is basically raw land with some tent sites and cleared areas for RV's, tents, bikes, cages, and just stuff.
Enjoy the property, drink and make as much noise as you want, just dont burn the place down and pack out anything you pack in.
It's possible my nephews or brother could be there too, dont worry, you probably cant keep up with the 20 somethings anyway, they wont be in the way, they drink me under the table everytime...
I'm sure I will still be riding in Montana, so you all go and have fun. Thats why we bought the place. Pack in everything you need and leave it like you find it. I hope you enjoy yourselves, it will be there for us to use for years to come...
This winter I'll be expanding and making it more comfortable for these types of events. Anyone have a dozer or skid steer to clear more land?

Since Fife is south of me, I can meet at the Poodle Dog with the rest of the northerners. Maybe the others around my area can do the same. Is 9:15 meet time at the PD with a 9:30 leave time okay with everyone? The rest of the tour stops can estimate time from there. Just a suggestion. I'm open all day, so any time consensus is fine with me. What do you all say?

sounds like Blue falcon is bringing the north group from the poodle dog stands up at 9:30. We can do a 10:30 stands up from Hawks in Lacy. Its about 50 mile up to the lake from there. Should put us there about 11:30. If we setup camp and get tings aranged at the camp we should be stands up for a ride at 1:30. I have a couple routes worked out for the ride but I would like to know is how long you would like to be gone camp? I know the food joint Ive got picked out are about 45 minutes away from camp This is about 2;30 give ourselves about 1 hour for lunch and a coffee nudge back on the road about 330.these times are flexable not set in stone. how does this sound so far?I figure about 3 or 4 hours of ride time That will get us back to camp around 7 pm we can grab food at hoodsport befor going up the hill to the lake.should be plenty of daylight left to get the fire started so our dancers will have a place to entertain    :beer2: :beer3: These are just my thoughts i`m open to any suggestion.

Mike - it would be nice to see you and that beautiful machine of yours. We haven't seen you on any rides this year, so if it fits your schedule, it would be cool if you were there. BigD is planning on doing the Saturday ride. I'm planning to bring a bottle of Jack and see if I can find a 2-liter bottle of Coke. I drank Dave's bottoe of Jack and had some apple pie at MarDon. That was a party indeed.
I heard "what happens at MarDon stays at MarDon" but I have yet to see anything from this group in way of a "guy's night out". I'm looking forward to it and looking foward to hanging around a campfire and hearing a lot of good lies. I have one that' I've been saving for the lot of you, but you're gonna have to be there to hear it.
I sure hope we can get some good photos of all the bikes (and maybe riders, too".
As far as I know, this will be the first. Maybe we can start a new tradition like with Winthrop. That was a good time last year, too!
Rod-O - you're gonna be missed, but if my daughter was gonna get married at my house, I'd be missing the ride, too See you next year.
BigRon - I'm looking forward to seeing you and that Shadow lead the ride. OK - I'm assuming you're gonna be on the Shadow and not the scooter for this one - LOLOLOL!
You missed out at MarDon - wish you had been there!

I guess you didn't see the ride Tony and Bob and I took to the KOA over in Wintrop about a month ago. If that wasn't a "boys night out" I don't know what would qualify. A good time was had by all and many good stories and political views swapped. Oh yeah, we got good and **** faced too. I think I even smelled a little herb in the air but not sure where it came from 8)

Joes is having a tent sale right now. $20 will get you a really nice small-ass (backpacking) tent. I bought mine about 15-16 years ago for $20 or so and am still using it today. It works great and I can set it up myself in about 5 minutes.
Hope to see ya there.

Between the South Sound board and this board we have at least 20 guys signed up for this one. My hat is off to both Ron and Greg for making this happen. Sorry, guys - I've just been plain busy lately. I'm looking forward to seeing you guys and having a great weekend. It looks like we might see some cooler weather than we've been having lately, so that's a bit of a relief for me. There's even a possibility of a sprinkle or two and for the first time in a long time, that isn't going to slow me down one bit.

http://www.explorehoodcanal.com/lake-cu ... ngton.html (http://www.explorehoodcanal.com/lake-cushman-washington.html)
There is a few acers with several tent sites and RV parking. Turn right at Mile Marker #9 from Hwy 119, stay straight, last two driveways on the Right...
Nice campground, but not luxurious. Generally I keep a camp trailer and use generator power and well water.

Should put us there about 11:30. If we setup camp and get tings aranged at the camp we should be stands up for a ride at 1:30. I have a couple routes worked out for the ride but I would like to know is how long you would like to be gone camp? I know the food joint Ive got picked out are about 45 minutes away from camp This is about 2;30 give ourselves about 1 hour for lunch and a coffee nudge back on the road about 330.these times are flexable not set in stone. how does this sound so far?I figure about 3 or 4 hours of ride time
I think I am going to sleep in and take a leisurely cruise up the canal and meet you at Cushman around noon. I am in for the afternoon ride but I will probably head out with Big D and the others for the ride home. If anyone from the peninsula wants to ride with me shoot me a PM and we will find a place to meet up. Sorry for the late notice. Ride safe all 8) .

My hat's off to BigRon for this one. He did the research, led the ride start to finish, pulled a trailer & hauled all the groceries and firewood ( gotta teach that guy how to build a campfire), picked a great place to eat (Rusty Tractor), and breakfast was good, too.
We started with 13 guys - including 3 new members. Todd really changed my mind about him. I was under the impression that if it was even going to sprinkle, he'd throw in the towel. WOW! It didn't just rain - It freakin' POURED! My leathers are outside now and are about 95% dry finally. I thought Lee was kidding about pouring water out of his boots, but he wasn't. Most of us were even wearing some kind of rain gear and still got wet. Lee bought a new pair of boots when we did a pit stop at Wal-Mart in Shelton. By the time we finished the ride and got back to camp, the weather had taken a turn for the better. We got a campfire going and a fire in the cabin. Sorry about the cabin, Aaron. We can help you build a new one. If it's any consolation, the stove is still good and the outhouse was untouched.
By 10:00 I was ready for bed, looked up at a clear sky and 1000 stars, said "what the hell - we still have one more bundle of firewood" and helped Lee polish off his bottle of rum. By 11:00 I was wondering why no one else was tired. I think we burned the last of the wood and all went to bed about midnight. I didn't hear todd or Greg snoring, but I heard all about it this morning. It turned out to be a nice night and it wasn't cold and didn't rain. I guess the guys in the cabin were plenty warm and dry, so that was even better.

What a cool weekend! I started the ride on Friday after work and met x-erciser at his house. We rode down to Edmonds and caught the ferry to Kingston. Shortshifter met us on the other side and we did a great dinner in kingston out on a deck in the sun. Rowland chose a great place for dinner and visiting. We then all rode down the canal to his place where he and Kathy set us up for the night and treated us like family. BTW, this was the first time I had met Rowland and Kathy. They are welcome at my place any time! They just have to be willing to go for a "little" ride first. We got up and had a relaxed morning and went to coffee and waited for the rest of the group. Then the rest is history.
Ron, great job! I really enjoyed meeting you and riding with you through hurricane Ron on Saturday. It was like a pool party without the pool and the umbralla drinks. You pulled us off the road and kept us sheltered at the gas station when you saw that Monsoon coming through. You were very consistant with the time frames you estimated us to be at each spot every time! You made sure we didn't get too dried out between each rain experience. And yes that was what it was... an experience, before we got wet again. You led us through the 4 wheel drive test track like a champ! You gave me the opportunity to see how many quarts of water I could wring out of my leather gloves. The meal stop was very welcomed and very good too. All in all I would follow you again on any ride you choose during a drout! :pepper1:
I met a lot of new guy's on this trip and enjoyed talking with you. It did help to be the new guy so I could meet so many of the new guy's I didn't know.
We made it home to at 5:20 this afternoon. Thanks to the goofy ferry system. I look forward to the next trip when we can all sit around the camp fire having fun. Although, I did laugh more laying in my tent and listening to Ron and Todd, who had checked out a couple of hours earlier, go on about different things and laughing so hard they couldn't breathe. It was a good weekend with lots of good memories!
Take care guy's and thank you for a great weekend. I still think the soggy bottom boy's sounds funky but I can go with the flow! :beer3:
Wow those are some cool pics, too bad about the weather, but sounds like you still had fun!
I'm glad it worked out, sorry I missed it but arrived home from Montana Saturday about 6. I'll get some pic up from Glacier NP, that place is incredible...

Hey, Soggy Bottom Boys. Hope a guy dosen't have to ride a cirtain kinda bike to come on here. Ya can kick me off if you don't like my Vulcan, oK. :rain1:
Dang, Had a hell of a time on this trip. One second, yellen at the clouds. And the next, enjoying the view. And Rainman, I'd follow you to hell and back. That was a gas. Sure thought we were gonna be pickin up parts of everything there at one point. Some people's kids I tell ya. Some one should have beat their kid a little harder when they were young. Moroff in that Mustang sure put a chill up my back side. :cus: "Why do they call them morons when their more off than on"?
Enjoyed myself none the less though. No bike problems for any one, " short of a dirty bike" thankfuly. Ride gave me a good reason to buy a pair of boots. "I guess the next thing is rain gear that have a longer leg. They don't do much good at the top of your boots". Great time at the fire pit. Lot of good stories and brain storming on a good name for this run. Only one person did the fire dance that I saw. Hope next year is dryer, for sure!! :beer3: Breakfast was a welcome break. Didn't finish that omlett, but it was good. I'd go back.
Ride home was uneventfull, short of the two idiots who wanted my lane. Is that what the rear gunner puts up with? People just don't look in a cage. Stoped at my partners house and got to look at his new Harley. Got himself a 04 Road king, Nice bike. Any one interested in a Ulta glide? Real nice bike. He just dosen't need three Harleys. He's got it on Craigs list for $8500. But if your talkin cash, he's willing. Just wants a quick sell.
Well, Gonna get my bike out and give her a well deserved bath. Time to break out the elbow grease. Mail me any time you guys. Look forward to meeting and riding with more of ya. GOOD TIMES. Lee :beer2:

Great weekend despite the downpour on the ride. We all should get our "VTX Rubber Ducky" awards for that one. Glad that Greg and I snagged the loft in the cabin for the sleepover. It was nice and toasty inside and no need to set up a tent. Did I say "toasty"? Of course, sleeping in the same room with a running chainsaw was a little distracting at times. Heh!! Man, Greg, you musta been tired. I don't even think you remember starting the fire.... :P :P :P
Too bad Aaron called our bluff already. Bummer that he knows we're such liars... Thanks a million, Aaron, for letting us camp out at your place!!! You rock!
It was good to meet some new faces and hang out with you all around the campfire. It turned out to be a real pleasant evening. And dang that Lee for bringing that spiced rum with him. I swear he had a mission to fill me up with that stuff and make me breath fire. Just glad the headache the next morning was only a low rumble. Nothing a couple pop tarts and some powdered sugar donuts couldn't take care of. And I really wish Dan would have talked more. But I was more than willing to take the flack for the silent treatment he was giving everyone. I'll do it any time for ya, Dan, my friend. By the way, are there any more questions you guys need to ask me? Too bad, save 'em for next year!!!
Hats off to Ron for always finding a way to lead us into the storm and for being the mule that carried all our crap back to camp from our shopping trip in his curb hopping 4x4 trailer. You did great, Ron!! Hope next year the weather is nice so we can truly appreciate what Ron had intended for us on the ride. I know Ron said the food was good at the Tractor restaurant, but all I really remember is warming up my hands on the hot chocolate mug and listening to Todd grouse about the rain running down his shirt. Oh yeah, and wringing out my gloves on the carpet.
I think Roland got the award for biggest tent again. Dang dude, I can only guess how big your house is! It was rather enjoyable watching him yank that trailer around the campsite like a sled dog. Did anyone get a picture?
BTW, Greg, you got a year to plan for our next year's Guys Only Soggy Bottom Rubber Ducky run (whatever it's called). You ARE going to be the fearless leader, aren't you? I remember taking a vote or something... :P
And thanks go to Keevin for dreaming up the Guys Weekend idea. We'll have to keep this one going. Man, I slept a ton last night. Glad I have the week off.
Take care, fellas!

Nice pics, Dan - and nice to finally meet you. How did the custom-tailored chaps turn out?
I just noticed that there were a lot of guys who were planning to make this ride who never showed up. Too bad for them. This was one of those "The more the merrier" kinda things. There were enough empty tent sites for at least 12-15 other people and the cabin could have easily slept 4-5 more guys.
For what it's worth, Greg was unanimously voted "Fearless Leader" for the Second Annual Soggy Bottom Guy's weekend Run". Ron did a great job and I hope to see him next year as well, but this was one of those kinda events that just begs for more participants.
As I said in an earlier post, I was impressed that Todd would come (rain) and the new guys who had never ridden with this group before. Since I was running tail-gunner for Ron I got to see the group of 13 - then later only 9 riders. It was an impressive sight. The motorists (cagers) were mostly admiring us and generally gave us right of way in a very nice way. They were smiling and waving, so I can only assume that they likes looking at the small parade of bikes.
When we had breakfast at the little restaurant by Aaron's property, we were well-treated and the food was good, but a little slow to arrive. It was a great weekend - good company - good ride & scenery - safe and sound and very scenic and private.
I'm already looking forward to the same event next year - hopefully wih better weather.
