Hi All,
We had another good get together today at the Trappe Tavern. Nice to meet some new folks and see some friends from the last time. We've got a recommendation for our next get together on 8/14. Charlie is going to post something for us on that.
Some of us were talking about going out to Carlisle Bike Fest together on 7/24/04. For those of you who are interested here is a suggestion - we could meet at the Service Plaza at Milepost 304.8 on the PA turnpike. That's the plaza between Downingtown and Morgantown exits on the westbound side.
I'm thinking if we meet there at 9am we can be out in Carlisle by 10:30am (it's about 80 miles from that service plaza). We can spend a few hours and then ride back when we want.
Here is the Carlisle link for your info:
http://www.carlisleevents.com/schedule/bike/index.asp
Of course, if you've got another idea to meet up post it and we'll figure it out!
Hey Bill (greenvtx) - if you want to meet up to ride down together on Saturday morning let me know. We could meet at that same Turkey Hill on Rt 73. You'd need to be there about 8:15am to meet the guys at that plaza at 9am. I know Dorothy was looking to get you out of the house so if you want to come down Friday night and hang out let me know - I've got an extra bed and lots of beer in the fridge! For that matter if anyone wants to come over on 7/23 for a BBQ at my place in Limerick let me know! We could have a pre-Carlisle get together.
Cheers,
Dave

Hey Dave,
Yes, there have been a couple of posts about Carlisle on this forum. I've been planning on going on the 24th since the event was posted. I'll see if I can make that rendevous on the turnpike. I was actually plotting a nice backroads way to get to Carlisle. I'll see what time allows. I believe Steve is going, and a Gold Wing buddy of mine.
How was Colorado?

Hey Gus,
Looks like you and Ragman had a great time on your 2day adventure. You'll have to fill us in in person on that eagle story.
I'm sure open to a backroads approach in going to Carlisle. That's always much more enjoyable than just highway driving. If you want to recommend a different meeting location for going backroads way I'm game for it.
The trip out to CO was great. It was a great Father/Daughter vacation. We ended up driving our bikes out because the trailer reservation got messed up. What a ride out and back and then the rides through the Rockies were great. The CO crew is a great gang of folks as well as all the other X'ers from around the country. The only the bad about the whole thing was that we were the only 2 PA X'ers! Next year we'll have to correct that! :D

Is the Carlisle trip a one day trip? I may start working on the wife if it is.

I'm up for the trip to Carlisle. $5 to get in and free parking for bikes on the grounds.

Iron Butt - Good meeting you on Saturday!
Ragman - Yes this is planned as a one day ride.
Gus - I'm tagging along on this one too and will be showing up wherever we decide to meet along with VTXHDCII. Secondary roads work for me too but since it looks like we have at least four or five confirmed at this point the highway would be fine too...either way.
Hope to see you all on the 24th!

Sounds good!
Maybe the direct approach might be best, since it's such a short distance. We could meet up with other riders and get there with minimum fuss. The turnpike is actually not bad between Valley Forge and Carlisle. If we plot a backroads route, it could easily double the length of the trip. We want to have time to enjoy the show, and not be too tired. Between riding both ways and walking around, it could make for a long day.
What do you think?

Works for me Gus. Like I said...better in a group on the highway and you're right, we will get there faster. Plus you can be our police escort

I agree that the turnpike would be the best way as we have a good size group now and hopefully it'll grow. We also could get off one exit east of carlisle and take in some backroads before hitting the show. It might be easier to use them as traffic comming from the turnpike would be backed up. :mcrider:

OK!
So, we are all agreed? We're meeting at the service plaza at 9AM? How many do we have, so far?
Ragman, are you in? Steve?
Iron Butt, or anyone else from Delaware Co., do we want to meet up and ride out together? Let me know.

Hey Todd-welcome! I'm sure that if we can figure out a logical meeting point it would be great to meet you. I have never been to the show or the fairgrounds so I wouldn't know a good spot. Maybe one of the guys who are more local can suggest something. In anycase glad to have yet another new PA X rider.
BTW - Great signature line

Capt,
I found another VTX1300 retro in Havertown via the cruisercustomizing.com board. I asked him if he wanted to join us. He is checking with some of his riding buddies and will let me know if they are joining us. I'll keep you posted as soon as I find out how many are joining us. :mcrider:

Hey yall,
Where exactly is the service area at mile post 304.8. Never mind...I just told myself. It's at mile post 304.8.
Another question...Took a look at Microsoft Streets and Trips and the only area I could assume was a rest/service area is just past the I-176 exit. I followed I-76 from Downingtown through Morgantown. What small town is the service area near? Just trying to find the easiest way to get there from southern Chester County.
Can anyone lend me $5.00 to get into the show?

Ragman,
You would have to get on the turnpike at the Downington exit at Rt 100 north of Rt 30. 304.8 is just east of the Morgantown exit. You could run 10 N upto 30 east to 100 north. :mcrider:

I just got a vtx and found this site . since there is no MD group, maybe i'll track you guys down at Carlisle, if that's ok. Love that green bike, is that a stock color? mine is black(1800c) but i'm going to have green ghost flames put on by my sister in law. she does custom work on tanks and helmets.
GreenVTX
07-14-2004, 05:16 PM
Dr. Evil - Yup, Uranium Green was a stock color for 03 and only for the 1800C model. They had to stop making them after that cuz they realized how much faster the green ones go then any of the other colors. :D
Green flames on a black X is going to look sweet! Good luck with that and for god's sake don't do anything to piss off your sister-in-law before she does the work or you might end up with blue smurfs instead of green flames...and that...would just...look silly
Ride safe!

yeah, i would have held out for the green, but there are only so many '03's in crates left to get that 2000$ off deal they are running. couldn't resist when it started speaking to me while i was buying my wife a volusia. or was that growling to me?

Hey Guys - I got the info for this service area off the PA Turnpike map. Here is a link to the map to give you a reference:
http://www.paturnpike.com/images/maps/pastrip2.jpg
And Steve (IronButt) is right on the money - the last entrance you can get on the turnpike and make this service area is the Downingtown entrance (#312) off Rt 100N just outside of Exton. The entrance is just north of Rt113 on Rt 100.
Ragman - we'll get you in even if Gus doesn't! Do you need gas money too!! :D :D
Looking forward to seeing everyone! Just speaking for myself - feel free to invite any of your buds regardless of their rides. Just be great to go riding together. 8)

So, we are all meeting at the Peter J. Camiel Service Plaza at 9:00?
Do any of the Delaware Co. riders want to meet up ahead of time, or just meet at the plaza? I have a couple of Harley riding buddies coming.
Iron Butt, we could meet at the Marple Crossroads Shopping Center, on Rt. 1, right off of Rt. 320. That is a stone's throw away from the entrance to I-476.
Ragman, do you need lunch and toll money, too? How about a permission slip? Just kidding...

Hey, Hey,
I'm going to try & fit this into my schedule. I'm trying to be careful not to make my wife too jealous of my two-wheeled girlfriend (The SilverBullet), so I'll turn on the charm this week to make an all-day Saturday trip not so hard to swallow! Please, pray for me!
Ragman: Brother, I do understand what you go thru!
Hope to see you all at Post 304.8!!!

I'm working hard on this one. Begging, pouting, slobbering and a few other things that a man would not admit to.
Could I get one of you to call my wife and tell her that I need to go on this ride. Tell her that you are paying my way and that if I can go then I will do anything she wants to do for a whole week. (even paint the bathroom) (maybe). She would not believe me if I told her that.
A little gas money would be nice. Do you need to pay to use the turnpike :?:

Ragman,
Sure buddy! I'll make that call, and pay your way. I still owe you for that nice Solomons trip. I would even offer to help you paint your bathroom. But, that would get ME into trouble! I've been putting off painting mine for awhile now. I've been telling her that I'm too busy getting my buddy John out for rides...

Ragman,
No bashing from me, buddy. You will be missed. I missed the last get-together because of work. I was thinking of passing on Carlisle, because I just got assigned to work 8pm-midnight that night for overtime. But, I figure I can make it back from carlisle way before then...even if I have to leave early. We can't make them all!

The weather geniuses are calling for "heavy rains" Friday night into Saturday morning. If it's raining on Saturday morning, I won't be going to Carlisle. Maybe I'll go on Sunday, if it does rain on Saturday. Sunday is supposed to be a really nice day.

Hey, Guys,
I might not make this one after all; my bike is sounding really strange, so I've got to take it in for a dealer to check out - under my extended warranty.
There's a strange rattling sound coming from the front of my engine that started just this morning on my way to work; it hasn't seemed to affect performance yet, but in 5 months of owning this "Beast" it hasn't ever made noise like this, :o so to be on the safe side, it's going in for a checkup tomorrow, and I can't be sure when I'll get it back. :(
If anybody's experienced something like this with their X, let me know! Thanks!

Well, so much for believing in the weather forecast! I had stayed later than I had planned at my son's bachelor party because of the forecast, and others saying they weren't going. By the time I got my sorry butt out of bed and saw that it wasn't pouring and the ground was dry, it was too late to cruise out on my own to Carlisle.

YUP! I was fooled as well. I stayed up late, and slept late. Then I found out that I was too late. My only salvation is, that if I had gone today, it would've poured rain like crazy. This is always my luck.

I have to say that i did make the ride leaving around 11pm. Taking 81 S from York,PA it took me 3.5 hours to get there, I have never seen so much traffic in my life. When we got there I have to say it wasnt worth the ride, there was just so many people there you couldnt hardly move around. Although i did see Paul Jr and Sr I could have had a better time staying home....
