Login question and spammers [Archive]

I don't know why but for some reason I can't seem to make the registration question easy enough for everyone to figure it out. :dontknow:

If I turn off that feature I get hit hard by the BOT's and spammers as some of you may have seen this morning. :oops:

How about giving me some questioins that you think would work here.

You've got me Lamonster. I know I was one of those who screwed up and it was only because I rushed through without reading all of your instructions. If there isn't a way to stop the registration process unless it's done correctly..... ie: "you can't go to the next step until you get the first one right" then there are gonna be num nums like myself that think we know more than we actually do.

When I was trying to log on the first time here the question came up “who makes the VTX” I answered Honda and it reloaded for me to try it again. I don’t think it can get any easer than that so it must be something to do with the new OA site. How about what’s the fastest color? LOL just kidding. How about how do you spell Honda or this might just work for the old timers here but what’s the first accessory you need to buy for your VTX? Answer tooth past to get the bugs out of your teeth after a ride. LOL I don’t know if any of this helps but I tried. I do like the new layout. Please keep up the good work. Yosam

Is that a tricky question? You asking in what time zone? The second question, is that one minute at a time or all them together? Before daylight time savings in early October or in the spring? "Fall" back "Spring" forward...

Two things to try:

1) Make a new usergroup and don't allow them to post images or links, then make new promotion so after they get 5 post it automatically promotes them to a member status that allows posting images/links.

2) Enable reCAPTCHA. Will make a ton of difference.

Check your spam folder. Mine was in the middle of other spam stuff. Almost didn't see it.

1. Clear browser cookies for www.vtxoa.com (http://www.vtxoa.com) or vtxoa.com

2. Clear temporary internet folder/cache

3. close browser

4. restart and accept all cookies from vtxoa

We're having the same problem over on the Heartland site...which is why I have it switched to admin approval. It's a pain in the ass, and you have to approve people manually when you can, but it keeps the bots from spamming the site.

"How many cylinders" works for me or How many wheels on a VTX? ... :dontknow: No matter how easy you make it LaMont... some will always have problems. It is not always the operator either, sometimes the program hiccups and won't allow simple data entry. BUT... WE do appreciate your work and the chance to interact with our thoughts on the subject.
