The last day I was able to ride was the 1st of November. Yesterday I faced the harsh reality of winter and seafoamed the gas and put it on the battery tender.

I got spoiled last winter and was able to ride at least a little bit every month. Anyone else here stir crazy yet?

Just had to vent a little;)

Hi Steel Horseman,
The forcast on Wednesday around here is looking like sunny and 40. I might go around the neighborhood a few times. Your bio says you live in ND. Where?
But, yes it is sad to put the bike away.
Have a good one.

MN Dan,

I live in Mandan but do make it our your way several times a year. The weather does look good for today and tomorrow, and the roads have cleared, so I am thinking the same as you.

We will have to try to get together next year for some ridin'.

Be safe,

Ted

I also got a ride in this afternoon. Went out for about half hour it was 38 and sunny :doorag:. I started getting cold and came in. Coming up the driveway was sad, I know this is it for a few months. But at least I got out the day before Thanksgiving and I hope others did too.
Here's a Happy Thanksgiving Day shout out to all. Have a fun and safe day. Don't forget to give your bike a turkey leg and some stuffing, she'll thank you for it.

I've found it eases the pain to completely tear your bike apart, sand all the paint off it(the tins anyways) and get it primed. Went and got paint today and layin it on next weekend. WOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOO!

that is sweet, can't wait to see it when it's all together. what kind of prep work is involved. i've never done anything to that caliber before, but sure would like to try it on mine someday. maybe have to find an old tins, and do some practicing.

My original plan was to just rough up the clear coat and put primer right over that. The stock paint must be a single stage paint because I would sand the fender and there would still be some shiny spots. I decided to take everything down to bare metal, bare plastic on the front fender. I tried an orbital sander, but found paint stripper works a lot better and quicker but NOT ON ANY PLASTIC PARTS. I put etching (filling) primer on the bare metal. Wet sanded in between primer coats with 600 grit sand paper. As far as paint goes, I used Napa brand, Crossfire line. Layed down the orange on everything first. Then taped off my lines and put the gray down. Finally cleared over everything after I took the tape off. There you have it. Painted. It takes some time but it just takes practice, like anything. I've always said that "I don't have patience, hospitals have patience" but this one of the few things that I just don't get sick of doing. I'm no professional but if you have any questions I might be able to answer them. You may as well go for it now, you've got time. Its gonna be awhile before we're riding again.

Mike,
That's a great color combo. I would never have thought of orange/grey.
Sounds like you know what your doing. I wouldn't know where to start. I guess mine will have to stay the stock red.
Your bike is going to look great.:congrats: Be sure to show us some pics when your done.

paint looks good! Well done!

I got to ride yesterday to and from work ( 30 mi or so) but I think that's it for a while...

painting can be fun, it's a lot of work sometimes and can be addictive! 8)

Got the bike back together and pretty happy with the results. I didn't even scratch the front fender putting it back on. I'd like to pistol whip the motherf*&^%#r that come up with that design.
