View Full Version : Fury is it a VTX

Just wanted to start something. I looked at the specs. of the Fury so. Would you call it a VTX? Same motor, same headlight, same drive of a VTX. I would say yes. I think the motor makes the bike. I can't take a Harley frame and, use a Honda motor and, call it a Harley.

I would have to say it's a Fury.................You can have a Ford truck & car with the same engine exactly and you still have two different vehicles................It's all about the chassis.............:D Rod

You buy some American standard tools, extra gaskets, and some environmental oil spill kits.

Its a 1300 with shaft drive. I think it's ugly, skinny and is likely uncomfortable to ride. I think Honda missed the boat again.:wrong:

I think it's a VTX. Many have taken a stock VTX and customized it beyond what Honda has done with the Fury and they still call it a VTX. So, Honda just made a factory customized X.
There have been many threads on the topic of when it's no longer an X and the consensus was as long as it had the VTX engine, regardless of what one did to the frame, tank, lights, etc. it was still an X.

I think it would be better if it had an 1800cc motor. They are trying to compete with the Yamaha Rader with a 109ci motor and the HD Rocker C with a 96ci motor so the 1300cc is a little weak for that market. But I think it looks good.

I think the Fury looks real good! You know up close the bike would be clean and refined looking. My wife has been wanting to trade her 750 Ace for a 1300, if this bike is readily available unlike the Rune, the Fury would be the way to go. I hope they put pipes on it that give it a nice rumble, be just like Honda to make a cool looking chopperlike bike and it can barely be heard.

Not a bad bike. I really like the tail light and the wheels. Too bad they didn't go to the trouble of chroming them (maybe an option?). At least they colour matched the swingarm.
Did anyone pick up on what he said at about the 4min 25sec mark? "This is the first of a new kind of cruiser" so who knows what larger displacements may make an appearance in the future.;)

My wife got her learners licence last week. In the next week or so we'll going to find her a second hand Virago 250 to learn on.
We both just watched those two vids and she loves it. She's already making a list of what mods she wants done to it. She reckons by the time it comes down here (in about 12-18 months probably) she'll be on her full licence and be able to ride it!

The more I see it, the more I like it. Customize it like everyone does their VTX and you have a totally different bike. Rear fender needs some work, it does not follow the contour of the wheel (Just like the c doest). Get rid of the gay looking pipes and get a better seat and I think it would be sharp.

Personally my feelings about the Fury is, I like it but I doubt that I would buy it because it's too similar to my VTX 1300. My thing is I would kind of feel riped off because of them using the same motor. Perhaps it should be a 1500cc single pin with a 6 speed tranny. Believe me there's nothing wrong with the 1300 it has plenty of balls for me but if your making a new bike make it something the 1300 guys would step up to.
I would never use the 1800 motor the duel pin sound ruins the chopped aspect four me.
NOW LET THE BASHING BEGIN FROM THE 1800 GUYS
just my opinion

That is exactly what I was thinking. This would make a great bike for the fairer sex. It is going to be great competition for the Harley Sportster for sure. Why would anyone purchase a Sportster when they could have one of these. The low seat height, and low mass is great for my wife, but she is now looking for another traveling machine. AND this is no traveling machine. To put bags on this little beauty just wouldn't be right.

At 2:24 in on the vid the reporter asks, "Does it displace any motors in Honda's lineup?"
Honda rep: "No, this will be in addition to the other VTX 1300 series."
So, do they think it's part of the VTX series?
Model letter designations ... "C" stands for what? Chopper?

While it may utilize the 1300 VTX powerplant, I think Honda distanced itself from the VTX moniker on purpose. I think Honda wanted to offer up at least the idea of a "radical new machine" to the American motorcycle scene and to tie the Fury to the VTX would be counter-productive to that aim. But, as Crew is quick to point out, opinions vary. Ride safe, ride often. 8)

S&S manufactures specific HD matching externally-casted Motors with completely re-engineered internals. Sort of allows the HD owners to buy a tricked out version of a motor that will fit as a stocker in their bike with no modification required. Smart idea, great company! They make some serious powerplants. Wish they would do one for the X........:(

I just looked this up;
S&S Cycle is a motorcycle engine and parts manufacturer that was founded in 1958 by George J. Smith and Stanley Stankos in Blue Island, Illinois (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Island,_Illinois)[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S&S_Cycle#cite_note-0). The company started by selling high performance pushrods (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pushrod) for Harley-Davidson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harley-Davidson) motorcycles[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S&S_Cycle#cite_note-1), and today they still make parts for American V-Twin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V-twin) bikes. The company's current president is Brett Smith, the grandson of founder George Smith, who first started working at the company in 2002 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2002)[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S&S_Cycle#cite_note-2)[4] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S&S_Cycle#cite_note-3).
Thats funny,Blue island is about a mile from where I sit right now...

The Fury is a VTX like the Raider is a Roadliner.
Same engine, different chassy.
However I echo some of the sentiments here. 1300cc in a big bore V-twin is not something that would draw my interest for a new cruiser.
Also, I know I don't match up with most cruiser guys, but the 1800's dual crank sound signature was one of the aspects that caused me to get the 1800. ;)

I suppose you could make it a VTX... LOL
Two things I did like were the tail light and the way the shaft drive is hidden and color coded. Both had a nice, clean look to them.
Kinda cool looking but not for me. At my age and weight, I'm more of a cruiser guy...
I remember back before the VTX was "Announced". But we all knew "IT" was coming out. All the guys at my local dealer were calling it the "Super Shadow" because the Shadow line "was" the cruiser line for Honda at the time.

They are also smart enough to know when to get out................Harley "hit the wall" in the displacement game when their premier engine is overheating so badly they had to program many bikes to fire on one cylinder during idle & stops to keep from overheating(in some situations).............S&S has developed the X-wedge http://www.x-wedge.com/ a all new ground up engine to carry them beyond the old Harley design.................................:D Rod

not that my friend i would buy
Well the bike doesn't impress me nor would it be anything I would trade in a VTX for.
The bike looks small and would be underpowered by many other choppers that would run up on you. Take the Fury money and put it down on a APC or Ironhourse. There prices just dropped, due to the market slump, to reasonable pricing and would boost your credibility.
The whole point of the chopper is and expression of style, art, attitude, etc.. I can't see buying the FURY and bringing it home and calling Hal @ Directline with my credit card and buying the rims, pipes, bars, etc.. to make it my own. I would already be at the price of buying my buddies Pitbull and have a more powerful displacement and a 250 tire under my ass.

As far as the sound of the bike in the video it does sound good I just hope its a fury sound. The video is actually dubbed with who knows what. Half of the audio is the same track over and over with a different bike shot. if ya watch close and I use that word loosely youll hear shifting going on and none in the film or acceleration and none on the bike just a hard pan of the camera to make it look like it. Just my 2cents from the audio business.
Just be glad they didn't make a pink. The blue is all about the female riders that they plan to cater to.
