View Full Version : What is the general day for a M&G?

I think it's a Sunday, it is a certain Sunday of the month?
I want to head down there for one, and my weekends off are limited.

I think it's usually the last Sunday of each month, but I could be wrong. One of the guys from the NOLA area will probably chime in and say for sure. I'm in the same boat as you. My work schedule is crappy, plus I live 2 hours from NOLA to begin with, where all the M&G's usually depart from. They made one trip last year to Erath I think, but of course, I was working. Unfortunately, there aren't many riders from Acadiana that are members on this board:(

We try to have it on the last Sunday of each month if possible. That meet is a Sunday March 1st due to February having 28 days, which ends on Saturday.

Looking at my schedule I would be able to make a last Sunday of the month come July 26 (plus thats my bday) so if you guys have plan then, I'm heading down South.

Hey VTX Cajun, would you like to do a M&G on a Saturday in North Louisiana?

Sure, sounds good, but my Saturdays are like my Sundays.. not off that many.

maxwell328

I'm off every Saturday. There is a good many VTX Riders in North LA. We could post it here and on the Cafe and try to get something set up. I have been wanting to do this for a while. I was always envious of the South LA. riders.

:doorag: Saturday's have always been better for me too! But there are a few of the southern riders who work nights on on Friday, thus the Sunday selection.

Maybe we could plan a Saturday meet in Natchez for lunch (North & South), then ride the trace north to Jackson and split up towards our respective homes from there!

OK People, lets throw out some dates to see which one will work better on a state VTX M&G in Natchez, MS.

:doorag: Woooooohhhhh that's hard to do...............

Taking a shot in the dark...Saturday 5/30 or
Saturday 6/27

These are probably gonna be best for me. I know that March & April are out for me, between my daughters volleyball tournaments and my turkey hunting...I'm booked!

It's not like me to muddy the waters, but who would be interested in making this an overnighter?

It would be great to meet up with the riders from up north Louisiana. There are also a group of riders from the Vicksburg and Jackson area that I am sure will show us some good routes.

Vicksburg, ms is about a 3 to 3 1/2 ride for everyone in the Louisiana area. How about a trip there on Saturday maybe a ride through the battlefield and then those who want to stay over we can see about a hotel and those who want to go back home its 3 to 3 1/2 hours back home. Meet at 12 for lunch somewhere. General meeting location for the m & g is lunch.

Suggestions please.....

This would take care of all of Louisiana and parts of Mississippi.

I know some of you guys made the trip for bike week and I missed out, so I was just trying to get everyone back together and ride!
I am glad you guys in the north are getting together and hopefully you build a big, if not a bigger group, as the south's.

Sounds good to me!

Daryl, the Old Country Store http://www.roadfood.com/Restaurant/Reviews/1320/old-country-store in Lorman has an awesome buffet for only $8.95 with a fountain drink. They were on the Food Network for their Fried Chicken, voted as one of the best places to eat fried chicken. When I went there in March, the owner
"Mr. D" said to call him we ever made the trip again because he would treat us to some "special ribs, not no ordinary ribs"
I don't know how this will fit into the time frame though because it is about an hour away from Vicksburg and the ride thru the Civil War park will take 2-3 hours. Just a thought ..........

Doing this as a Saturday overnighter this could work out.....Lunch at 12 then a ride through the battlefield and then we will need to eat dinner......Then you're going to have to spend the night because you will be toooooo fffffuuuuulllllllllll to ride back home.......I can check with some of the local hotels and the casino for rates in the area.........We can check out of the hotel and leave coming back toward south LA around 9ish on Sunday, maybe taking in a few back roads.....

Leave time from St. Rose about 8:00 and pick up people along the way. Laplace, Hammond, all the way up to Vicksburg.

Is that restaurant north, south, east or west of Vicksburg. That might even be a good meeting place before the ride through the battlefield.

Input please from everyone.

Mulla wanted me to post here and let you guys and gals know about hotels in the area since I live in Vicksburg. We have several with good rates. The first one I recommend is the new La Quinta. It is beside the outlet mall, (that should interest the gals) and just opened this year. $89 a night. There is the battlefield inn where we hold our state rallies. $65 to $75 a night. For bargain hunters there is the Jameson inn which is only 2 star but has rooms for $55 a night. These are near the battlefield. Check hotels.com and priceline.com for best prices. Jameson and La Quinta are less at hotels.com. For more upscale acomodations try the Ameristar suites which is casino owned and has a river view. $125 a night. And there is the new Hampton Inn which opened about 2 years ago and is very nice. Don't know their rate off hand. Let me know if I can help.

What local restaurants are in the area that can accomodate a group other than the casino? We sometimes have very large groups 40+ but will not know until closer to the date.

We would like to invite all the Mississippi riders to come out and join us.

What local restaurants are in the area that can accomodate a group other than the casino? We sometimes have very large groups 40+ but will not know until closer to the date.

Here are some restaurants that can handle groups:

Goldies; BBQ, burgers and chicken. Our Southern Cruiser meeting are help here every month. They even have a large private room I can reserve for you.

Rowdy's; catfish (best in town), burgers, plate lunches.

Borello's downtown; great Italian food. No private room but they will use the upstairs loft for groups.

Shoney's: same as everywhere else also with a private room.

Cracker Barrel; same as everywhere else. Next to the outlet mall.

Garfields Pemberton Mall; Steaks, chicken, burgers, seafood, mexican, has a bar in the front.

El Sombrero; Mexican Mulla and his wife ate with us here when they were up, so ask them how they liked it.

El Ranchero; Mexican

Sol Azteca; Mexican

China Buffet; all you can eat Chinese buffet next to the outlet mall

Panda Buffet, all you can eat Chinese buffet next to WalMart.

I will get with the hotels and see who can block rooms for us once I get an idea of how many we are going to need.

I do know that Battlefield Inn blocked rooms for our state rally at $69 a night. Of course we did block room months in advance which may make a difference.

We need to set up a place in Vicksburg for everyone to meet and greet. We are looking at 3 to 3 1/2 hours of travel time for everyone to get to Vicksburg. After we can do some riding and maybe try to eat there around 6pm Saturday Night, that way we can get back to the hotel in Vicksburg by Dark or even do a Sunday Brunch there before everyone heads back home.

Ok guys, I have a room reserved for lunch Saturday at Goldie's Restaurant. Randy said to be there earlier rather than later so he can better serve us. His Saturday crowd is thin at noon but he is usually packed by 1:00. So 11:30 to 12:00 is the time to shoot for. He is going out of his way for us since he normally doesn't do large parties on Saturday and normally won't let anyone have the room. My riding buddies are excited too so we'll have a blast that weekend! The menu is basically BBQ beef and/or pork with a vinegar based sauce, chicken, hamburgers, hamburger steak, chicken fried steak, club sandwich, chef salad, chicken grilled salad and sides like cole slaw, baked beans, potato salad, corn on the cob, green beans, french bread and french fries.
If anyone wants info on any other restaurant of info from the Military park or other things just let me know either on this thread or by PM and I'll get it for ya!

directions: From hwy 61; point A is Pemberton Square Blvd. There is a stop light at the location with a chevron station and Wal-mart on the left and a Murphy station on the right. Take this road straight to Goldies. Note that you will pass by our mall, a Kroger and another "Goldies" drive thru location which is not the restaurant but is owned by the same guy. Take this to the stop light at Halls Ferry and proceed straight through the light and past Home Depot then about one mile down look for the restaurant on teh right which has a covered wagon in the front of the parking lot. If coming in from I-20 east bound take the Halls Ferry exit and turn right to Pemberton Square Blvd. Turn left at the light and proceed past Home Depot to Goldies.
I'll do another map for those coming in from the east.

Good news Dave! Look forward to seeing you guys again. Here is a map for those coming from I-55 and down I-20. Ignore point A, it is just a reference for making the map. You take the Indiana Avenue exit, turn left back over the interstate and turn right at the stop light onto Frontage road.

Just say the word, I can have a couple of my buddies go talk to your crawfishing co-worker.

Cajun and Max. its about 1 1/2 hours to vicksburgh from here taking I20. How does leaving the truck stop at 10 sound? That gives us 2 hours(my wife will have to stop for a cig break somewhere along the way). But its up to you, we can leave when ever i'm just thinking that you have an hour ride just to get here.

Leave time from (St. Rose Chevron) Kenner Airport Casino 8:00 and pick up people along the way. Laplace, Hammond, all the way up to Vicksburg.

Let me know what exits you are at so we can make a list on where we need to stop.

Just booked my room at the Laquinta. The little guy, Chris was helpful, the room rate was originally $109 a night and I told him we were with a group of motorcycle riders and the rate should have been about $73 a night. I told him we were with the VTXOA and he did give me the $73 rate ($80.30 with tax, 2 double queen beds). So, count me in. Looks likes I am riding with my son as of right now.

Hey guys, we might need to rename this thread the June meet and greet or start a new one. Just an idea, but I did not know it had turned into the June m&g thread until I decided to read it and realized that I needed to book my room if I was going. We are getting close on time and not everybody reads all of the threads, especially when they are three pages long.

See June 27 M&G in Vicksburg. Use this one only.
