Whats up guys. I just got my new VTX yesterday and I've put on about 35 miles. The manual says I'm suppsoed to ride it easy for 300 miles, but without a tach I'm just guessing what easy riding is.
In the booklet it gives you the optimum places to shift for gas mileage but doesn't tell you the top speed in each gear. Anyone here with a tach know what each gear tops out in?

1800 or 1300? I don't know anything about the 1300, but the rev limiter on the 1800 will stop you long before you do any damage. :( ... Just ride the crap out of it and enjoy!

I have the 1800 Retro. I was wondering if they had rev limiters on these cruisers without tachs. I couldn't find a place in the manual about a rev limiter. I'm just in the dark here becuase this is my 2nd bike....my first one was a Honda Magna which reved up to 9 grand and I was used to shifting into 2nd around 35 or 40 mph.
Rev limiters work for accelerating, but what happens when you downshift it too soon?

Hey! My first bike was a Magna, too. Loved that dang thing. Wish I still had it. That's a good question about downshifting. Don't know the answer to that one....
Since you're in Orlando, check out the other posts on the Central Fla. Forum and lets see if we can't get together and ride some time. I'm in College Park which is smack in the middle. LMK....

I would love to go riding some time. Right now I'm just taking it out inbetween the rain to break it in. I live by the 408 and Rouse Road. Dunno if those roads are well known or not...if not, just call it the UCF area.
Bad thing about trying to plan rides in Fla is the rain. I'll definatly try to catch any outing that starts off in Central Fla.

That would be the East side all right....
Check out the Steak & Shake at 436 and Aloma every Thursday night. Usually a few VTX's in attendance.
1st two accessories I purchased - windshield, RAIN SUIT -- absolute necessities in sunny? Eff Ell Lay! IMHO
Till soon, Eric...

I've gotten myself confused and downshifted at high rpm exactly once so far on my 1800, enough so that I nearly when over the handle bars (and for those who don't know me, I'm a BIG boy), 'ed the snot out of me....
The bike seemed to handle it just fine, no damage that I can tell to anything, nothing broke, rides as usual, so I don't think you really have to worry too much funky. I have also hit the rev limiter and believe me, at least in 1st and 2nd, it seems to kick in sooner than you'd expect, so again, I wouldn't worry too much. The only thing I've noticed is that the bike doens't seem to like being in 5th below 40 - 45. Just listen to her and get the feel of her, she'll tell you when she wants another gear, and spank you if she needs one!
Ride safe!
