okay found a hotel...The Layfette...
now where do the locals go for to eat? I can not eat Cajun (stomach thing) but throw some stuff out there!! doesn't have to be expensive!

cafe masperos on st peters st across from jax brewery ralph&kacoos may not be spell right mothers rest during the day mulates by the convention center just some tonght is bike night so i am sure some people will chime in latter

Johnny Whites on Bourbon St. Balcony dining. Best burgers.
Parasols (great Po-Boys), Frankie & Johnny's, Igors, Budda Belly.
These are all local places within 10 minutes of canal street

Jack Dempseys seafood, it's a little hole in the wall type place, but IMO it's the best seafood around. It's not super-spicy either, so I don't think that'll be an issue.
If you've got a big appetite try the onion rings too, they're the best.

Shame on me for not mentioning Jack Dempsey's. It is owned by the family of a good friend of mine. Bare is right, the food is great.

Good thing about down here is it is hard to wrong with just about any locally owned restaurant.
