One more layer of clear-coat on the tank and she's done! The gang at ACC think that she may ship as early as this Friday. WOOOOOO HOOOOOO!

Here's how awesome Kim (the owner) and his crew are: they wanted to make sure the "Black Candy" color on the tank was a subtle transition on the natural background, so they tested it on a helmet, which he's going to send me…How cool is that?!

It's absolutely ridiculous how excited I am about getting these parts on my bike, I'm like a little kid at Christmas.

that is sweet lookin.

how does it compare with the cost of custom paint?

man that is cool.

Thanks!

It's probably two to three times the cost of custom paint. There's a tremendous amount of time, skill and hand-work that goes into the fabrication of each piece. They use the same 50% Carbon Fiber/50% Ballistic Kevlar mesh as they do in the helmets they make, and if you notice, they match the direction of the fibers with the contour of the parts, not easy.

Birdie would be happy to know that this bike is literally "bulletproof", and if you have a light scratch that isn't deep enough to hit the fiber, you can just buff it out.

Absolutely. For some reason I didn't think of it, but I might send him my filter cover and my fork shrouds next winter.

WOW, It didn't take long for the vultures to descend! Well played…

Unfortunately, there is no "extra" helmet, while I was down in Florida on Vacation this last week I was riding with my friend Mitch (he rides an Ultra Classic and he also keeps a V-Star Silverado that I ride when I'm in town) We were in Everglades City on our way to Naples and we stopped for some gas, I forgot my helmet on the back seat and it fell off at about 80mph, it bounced around the highway and got good-n road-rashed, funny thing is the scratches were pretty uniform and almost looked cool, the next day I got the email with the pictures of my new "flamed" helmet, so I gave my old one to Mitch.

I was waiting for an in on that one...should have guessed it would be Crux!

OK here's mine. I was thinking of simply quoting him out of context, like movies do when they pick one part of a review:

...me want to touch it.

Sorry Caps...just sounded funny. :joke: I agree I cant wait to get an up close look at that. Hey would this disqualify him from the "Best Paint" category at MMR09's bike show? May need to create a new category...

You guys are dirty old men:rolleyes:

Alex you might need to get more chrome on the bike with your new fancy tins.

That looks awesome! I'm truly amazed they could stretch the fibers and align them that good!

I think I've always liked carbon fiber more than chrome!

No not really. I wrote a page full telling you why, but figured I would piss off people writing what I wrote... Lets just say I like to be different.

Roger that.:agree:

X'n, Gen X'er is probably right (even a broken clock is right twice a day), I don't think I would qualify for "Best Paint", did you have something else in mind? I'm listening. Would this be "mild" or "extreme" custom?

Caps, you can "touch it" any time you want big boy.

Hey! http://planetsmilies.net/star-wars-smiley-5472.gif

Not only do I help run the bike show...I am also a voter! ;)

I would think mild custom...last year we defined extreme custom at the swing arm level. But what you did is pretty major...:dontknow: Yeah X'N let's get some suggestions... MnXRider too!

Caps

I would think mild custom...last year we defined extreme custom at the swing arm level.

Extreme custom is a frame modification like a swingarm mod for fat tires and or raked trees. Everything else is Mild custom.

OK, I've got an idea for new categories…

Extremely Mild
Mildly Extreme
Extremely Extreme

Its a paint job.
Don't get me wrong .. its really cool.
But nothing was cut, welded or modified.
All the tins, the lights mounts, etc. are the same as stock. Even the tank seam is still there.

Again, I like it. I'm not distin it. I'm just saying. its a really cool paint job.

while I agree it may not be considered "extreme" because there were no mechanical changes like a raked tree or a swing arm, categorizing it as a paint job sounds even less accurate.

Although I can't describe the fabrication methods because I signed a non-disclosure agreement, I can say…I really don't think it's a paint job. How can it be a paint job when there's no paint? Unless of course you count the clear coat. Maybe if the category was "paint, coatings and fabrication", but it's not, and putting it in the paint category is misleading, and possibly unfair, If I was going up against it in a "paint" category I'm not sure I would like it.

The fact of the matter is that it doesn't fit easily into either category, if you want to call it a paint-job, that's fine with me, but people are going to think you're suggesting the pattern is painted on, and it's not. It's a fabrication job that has many manufacturing elements that are not found in any paint-job.

It's a moot point isn't it? There is no "paint category" it's just "mild custom" and "extreme custom", correct?

Steal from the 'Art Cars' - declare an Art Bike category and get 2 trophies.

One for Alex and the other for Birdie.

I was thinking more along the lines of some fun classes.

Dude CF on your bike is considered paint in my book its cosmetic so thats how I see it.

Now what I was talking about was different classes to add.

First off would be MFG and sponsor class. So we don't end up with the same thing we had last year  No prizes for this class either. And I'm saying this knowing I'm going to be stuck in this class. Its just the right thing to do.

Second would be the dirtiest bike. The more non formal of a show you have the more people will enter the show. After all the whole point of it is for fun correct?

Third... well I can't remember just put something fun here

I strongly dislike car/bike shows, when trophies/prizes are awarded, for some of the reasons mentioned. People should have what they like and not worry about what others think. Thats how Harley owners go thru life. I assume you guys are talking about the MMR bike show? If I am wrong correct me. I did not enter last year for the reasons mentioned. I did like looking at the bikes however. My point is - Why would I have to be in the EXTREME custom class? Doesnt make sense to me. I have the usual mods, pipes, intake, seat, some crappy chrome covers, some paint, some pegs and mirrors etc etc etc. But because i cut off the fender mount ears and put on a modded swingarm to fit a 250 tire, that makes it EXTREME custom? Not hardly. I have stock rake, stock front wheel, stock engine. My bike dont come to events in a trailer. I rode it there last year in 250++ miles of continous moderate rain with a 30mph crosswind on I90 the entire way. During the trip, I saw 2 goldwings upside in the ditches.
Oops, I got off track, sorry........... I dont like bike/car shows.

For people that have input on the MMR Bike Show or want to continue to complain about it, I'm starting a new Thread called "MMR09 Bike Show".

Sorry Alex for the hi jack. You would probably win best tins award;)

No sweat Caps. Since it's been determined that it's a paint job, I'll just tell people I did it with an airbrush and a magnifying glass.

Oops, didnt mean to sound complaining Caps. I have no complaints about the MMR bike show. I was just trying to make a point about different classes in general, but used the MMR class as an example.

Bottom line for me is I love looking at the bikes in shows, but for me, even if I had a $30,000 custom whatever bike, I still wouldnt enter it. I am just weird that way.

I should stick to my own unused state board.
