I'm taking a week off from work the first week of April and I'm looking for suggestions for a ride. It's early in the year, but you have take your opportunities when you get them. I don't want to go to the Gulf Coast. (been there, done that) I live in Russellville, Arkansas. That is west-central Arkansas right on I 40. I want to avoid the cold and rain, so I'm thinking I need to go south and west. Here are some of my ideas:

The hill country of Texas around Austin and points west of there. The wild flowers are great in early April. I've seen them once before, but would do it again.

The southern half of New Mexico and south eastern Arizona. I've never seen that part of the world. I'm afraid it might be too cold this early at the higher elevations.

I'm not into flat, boring country. We've got that in eastern Arkansas. I enjoy small towns, history and God's beautiful creation. I like eating at the Mom and Pop places and avoid chain restaurants when I'm vacationing.

I plan to stay in inexpensive hotels. (I travel a lot for work. As long as they are clean they all are about the same. A bed, a shower and a TV. I've stayed in a lot of places that were fine for around $50 a night.)

I can ride all day if the temps are above 45 or so, but I love it in the 70's.

OK, Texas brother and sister VTX riders. You guys have given me a lot of good information in the past. Let's hear it.
