Ok, I've read all the manufactures literature on windshield sizing. Why does the VTX need a 9" cutout and is it possible to put a 7" cutout on our bikes??

If I remember right some guys used the 7 inch cutout. I have the 9 inch and it works great. Maybe you can do a search on this forum and get more info.

Ah, the wonders of a "search" engine. Found the answer right away. We can use either one. The 7" fits a lot closer to the headlight allowing less air turbulence. So looks like I'll be ordering the 7".

I just typed "windshield cut out" in the search engine at the top of the page and got a whole lot of threads.
9" is easier to install but has more clearance around headlight. 7" fits very close to headlight.

I read somewhere on the forums that the 9" cut-out will allow a little air thru the bottom which will break down the air pocket effect and get rid of the head buffeting :dontknow:. Thoughts? Getting one in a month.

i have the 9in what i have found is that the more upright the windsheild is the better it gets the wind around you what i have notice is 1 that when i where a normal legal helmet the wind thens to buffer off the top unless i raise the w/s to its highest point if i where the nov helmet i recived none of that dont know why this happens 2nd thing i notice is the lower air whips up from under the w/s so i order the lower deflectors that made a diference but did not completely remove that lower air and really you only care about the lower air when it is cold over all the i find that i ride at 70-80mph more often than with out

Yeah, the cold is somewhat of a consideration b/c I ride year-round. Really, I'm more concerned with being able to take long distance trips at 70-80 mph and not fighting the wind the whole time.

I have Swithcblade windshield and it is great. Comes off easily, no tools needed. This feature makes cleaning the windshield and the bike easy with the windshield off. Check out their website, they can take a lot of punishment.
