Just thought I'd let my fellow Minnesotans know what I paid for my 600 mile service here in the Twin Cities. I had the work done at Motoprimo South in Burnsville (where I bought the bike). Total came to $263. $225 of which was for labor. Invoice said it took 3 hours, even though according to others on this board the Honda Service manual says it should only take 1.5 hours. Just curious what others in the area are paying. Later!

Hey man Motoprimo is rip-off. Honda Town in Minneapolis is way cheaper! My 600 mile service was $125. Also didn't even have to make an appointment. :)

I also bought mine there too, till I went to pick it up. Was promised a delivery date of a Tuesday afternoon. Called them they told me, they didn't know when it might be ready. (BS) Called Larry at Honda Town 20 min later got my bike. Then drove down to Motoprimo to pickup the money that I put down on it.

Plus saved 500 bucks no frickin set-up fees. 8500 straight up. Just my opion :D

Looks like I'm gonna have to take my business elsewhere in the future. What does Honda Town have for accessories for the 1300? Decent selection? Thanks.

What 600 mile service?
Didn't have to be done by a dealer, just document that you did it, check fluids etc. I paid zero. Bike now has 17k on it. I do all the oil changes and maintenance. Dealer has had it to change tires and steering head adj, that's it.

Unfortunately they do not have a great selection of accessories, they do not stock very much. (when I say not too much I mean nothing) They will order what ever you want free of charge but you know how it is. You want to pick it up after work, go home install it then go for a ride to test it out.

Wait that just must be me!

If you want accessories I'd go to Motoprimo.
Just my opinion. :)

For service I'd go to Honda Town there rates are less. The $125 service fee was for an oil change and valve adjustment.

Didn't you have your valves adjusted? Our manual states that they should be check and adjusted at 600 miles then again at 8000. :?[/i]

Again, doesn't state that the dealer Must do the valve adj. But I'll admit, $125.00 for valve adj is pretty darn reasonable. I've heard others charge closer to double that amount.

I know it doesn't help you guys in twin cities much, but for others up this way, Steve's Cycle in Fergus Falls told me breakin service would cost $125 also. Seen other guys out west pay lots more, but this is certainly reasonable up here!!

Anyone in Northwestern MN looking, I'd certainly recommend them. Tried to deal with local stealer in Fargo, but got treated much better in Fergus. Paid $8449 for my 04 1300 retro, with NO delivery/setup fees. Also offer 20% off parts, not just for initial purchase, but for the next 6 months, and charge NO installation fee on those accessories!!!

They've taken great care of me!!

My two cents worth...I'm done!

I also took my 1300S to Motorprimo South for the 600 miler. Boy, I'm in the wrong business. I had the same experience...$263 with $225 of it being 3hrs labor. I actually chose to have my 600 miler done by the dealer...ouch! Talk about foolish. Fool me once...shame on you...I will not be fooled twice. There's a lot of good info on this board and at www.vtx1300.com (http://www.vtx1300.com). I'll being doing my own maintenance work from now on.

I bought my 03 1800 retro from Larson, and was told that I could do my 600 mile service myself or bring it in. Well I decided to bring it in for an oil change, cost was about $52. When you figure they used $8/qt oil, and an $18 oil filter, the labor was almost nothing. Larson has treated me right from the beginning, although from here on out I will be changing oil and filter myself.

Hey guys,
There is no 600 mile inspection, is anybody listening! Why are you spending your hard earned cash on something that is not. If you feel the need to through your money away, though it at me, I'll take it if that is what makes you feel better.

If you really think that you need to change your oil at 600 miles, than do it your self. Don't let the stealer talk you into lie. Look at you owners manual, it says right there that nothing is due until 4000 miles.

As for the valve checks at 8000 milles, get you self a shop manual and do it your self, it's really not that hard. Get a few Xer's together and have a Tech session, everyone can learn.

To bad I'm in Utah or I would help you guys out. I've already done all my checks on my bike myself and I have over 12000 miles on mine. Bought mine in March of this year.

DRYWALLMAN, you're right, you don't check valves till 8k mi on the 1800. Too bad we're talking about the 1300, and yes, you'd better check valves at 600 mi. By the way, Motoprimo running a winter storage special, plus you get 25% off all labor you want performed, best of all it done over the winter so my 1300c is ready to roll the first day the ice melts. :D

It's not really that hard to do if you do it yourself. Then you can become one with your bike  , besides save a little green. I'm going to do two 1800 this weekend, were going to have a tech session in my garage. Should be a lot of fun and learning. To bad your in Minnesota, but you could still invited to come! :D :D

Yup - Honda Town. $125 Best price by far and you couldn't ask for a nicer, friendlier staff !
