Instead of hijacking Tross' thread, here is a new one.
Sunday, I am planning a ride down to Orange County Choppers.
It is there 10th anniversary. Starts 2marrow goes through the weekend.
Departure time will vary. Can never remember how long it takes going the round about way.
The Route will be rt 17 down to hancok Ny, 97 south to deerp park/port jervis. i think its rt 208 to 17K.
Route home will depend on how long we stay at OCC. But i am thinking going through the Catskills, Arkville, Delhi, walton way. But not set in stone.
Unveiling of the Howes Cavern bike will happen at 1pm, and I want to be there for it. They will be tapeing it as well for thier American Chopper Show.
I have done this ride many times, and its always a good ride as long as the weather is good. We will only tell Sunday morning.
Post up if you want to meet. We can meet if you would like at burger King Front street binghamton. I guess we can leave there at 9 am.
www.orangecountychoppers.com (http://www.orangecountychoppers.com)
all are welcome. plan on an all day ride, and dress for the occasion. It's about 200 miles one way.
If it rains, I may just go down any ways in the cage, but lets think Sunshine.

Bobo,
it is 209 to 17K.
That is a nice route, and I'm not criticizing or anything, but If you go that route down as far as Port Jervis, it isn't very likely you won't make it in time if you leave at 9AM from the Burger King. Travel time that way is four hours.
Well, I won't say you CAN't make it, you can if you plan on traveling well above the posted speed limit most of the way, don't run into any slow traffic, yadda yadda yadda.. But it will be very close if you do make it, and you won't have time to stop for anything..
You'll have a better chance of making it if off of 97 you pick up 17B in Callicoon to 17 and 17K. But in my experience, that is still a 3+ hour ride, leaves you some wriggle room. I have no idea what the current road conditions or construction situation is. Based on my experience when traveling with a group, you have to leave 15 minutes of buffer time for every planned hour of travel time.
Straight boring 17 down would take you 2.5 hours.. + the buffer time.
Your ride, your call. I have no doubt some of you riding balls to the walls could make it in much less time. I'm not going to be able to ride that way with a back seater, with a bumb knee, so I'll be content to start out with you and straggle in as we can.
So, boss, I can only suggest perhaps a shorter route, or perhaps leaving earlier - say 8 AM, which gives you a buffer and maybe gives you time to stop for lunch or peanuts before the unveiling.. Or stick with the original plan and see what adventure it brings.

no camping or burnout pit? No ride in show? No quarter mile? Whats one supposed to do while he waits autographs?
bobo116
04-22-2009, 03:29 PM
I will not be riding balls to the wall. Rarely do on this ride unless I am egged on by someone that has a faster bike and does it as well, after pillaging a gas stion two miles away from a police station.
For the most part, Relaxing day, usually posted speed limit unless you know your near a State Police barracks,:D and it is not all that important that I make it there at 1. If we do, we do, I would like to, but not a biggy. The bike will be there when we get there, the store will be there when we get there.
If you would like to join the ride, then we will see you there.. If not, thanks for the suggestions..
Since I posted the first time, I did look it up and noticed it was rt 209. I always forget untill I am there to see it.
One problem with going your way RB, you miss the best part of 97.... Hawks nest, and the road before it...

shorter route
131 miles 3hrs +/-
bobo's original plan
155 mi approx 4 hrs. leave at 9 gets there at 1ish, so whatever. im still in.

I don't normally get autographs. Just like the ride down, see them, look at the bikes, then eat, then ride home. I am not a sucker for autographs, could care less....

Very true, that is the best part of that road, and if you are going down 97 you might as well go down far enough to go through the hawks nest.
Somehow thought you were set on being there in time to see the unveiling. Would be cool, but bike will be there to see afterwards as you said. (so I'm repeating you now... ;-)
I'll post Sat as to whether or not I'm making it for sure or not. Right now I'm sure, but crap happens..at work and outside..

Then taking 209 down from Kingston. We just might have to change that and hooky up with you fellas at OCC.
PS. Bobo and any of your crew. There's plenty of room for maylay and stuffs at my friends house in Roxbury if youse want to spend Saturday night.

Or we could do your route in reverse .. do 28 over to 87, drop into New paltz and pickup Reaper ... then hit Eagle's nest on the return trip?
bobo116
04-24-2009, 10:02 AM
That's not a half bad idea.... I'll have to look at the map so I know my way, never done it in reverse.... I am game for it though so Reaper can join somewhere.... Burger King Front street.

Gonna keep the plan the same.
rt 97 to Port jervis, 209 wurtsboro, 17 k to newburge
Home, will be back to Wurtboro, up rt 209 to rt 28 in Kingston, then 28 over to margratesville. Rt 30 to rt 206, 206 to walton, then home. this way you have access to a highway near by if needed... I am sure someone will want to do it.
I may take a different rt up to Kingston, but dont really remember the way other that up rt 209. Any insight on how to, and I have done it before with no highways. Just cant seem to remember even looking at the map..
Will be a fun ride, will see some water, and will be a very good ride..

I'm not going to be able to make the ride to OCC tomorrow Bobo. Took me 10 minutes to git the bike started today fiddling with the starter switch. Called the honda store, and of course they don't keep a known weak component in stock. Talked to a Vulkarie rider today, and he has had the same problem with his starter switch 3 times. Any how, I may take the switch apart again in the am and play with it, but won't be in time for the ride and would not trust it to last the whole day anyway.
I'll catch you guys another time. Have a fun and safe ride.

Sorry we did not visit with youse longer but we were there over an hour and hungry... Hope to see you at Sturgeon 'OIX... But if you can ride around the country... so be it

The BoBo, Well I have never ridden through so many friggen Bugs in my life. And it was not just a patch but for miles... at least 50 miles.
BoBo finally gets us to The Eagles nest and gets off the bike and between him and his Booger PLASTERED with dead bugs... they looked like they were covered with fur.... I could not see out my windshield.... So many little bugs for as long as I have ever seen.

When I got home I noticed my left front turn signal amber lens was missing. I had chipped it when changing the bulb last year. I just bought a set of turn signals on the board and received same last week. Guess I need to get into the dreaded headlight wiring again...
Maybe the lens was a casualty of my Evil Knevil jump at Newburg last Sunday. Geez, last year a ding on my back fender... this year a lost lens .... that trip gets expensive!! And no dessert bar either !!!
