PLEASE COME OUT AND HELP OUT CAIDEN.......
Caiden was born October 18th! Perfectly healthy or so we thought. After the first couple of bottles Caiden started acting weird not wanting to eat and throwing everything back up, So the NICU team took him and ran test on him and found out he had a blockage. They thought they could just give him some medicine and it would pass and we would be fine! We did this battle for 2 weeks in the NICU and nothing was working. They decided it would be best to transfer us to a bigger & better hospital who could figure out what was wrong with him. Once transferred there they continued test and figured out he was born with a disease Called Hertzsprung's. Only 1 in 5000 babies are born with it. It is where the colon does not have all the nerves so they cant go to the bathroom. Once they figured out what he had, it was off to surgery to fix the problem! Surgery was Nov 17. Surgery went great! Caiden was going to the bathroom on his own, we thought we would be going home in the next couple of days like planned. We never would have guessed what would happen next! Caiden was in some pain after surgery and was put on morphine, the doctor decided that night to put him on a PCA pump for the morphine. A PCA is to be used with someone who is old enough to press the button, not a 3 week old baby, but they wanted us to press the button when he needed morphine, NO WAY. They tried to 2 hours to get the dosage to work on the pump. It wouldn't work because it was to small of a dose to use the machine so they decided not to use it and use a manual pump. Caiden was great all night. The next morning a new nurse comes in to place a Foley Catheter. We did not think it was in right, but she said it was. Then she comes back in with the PCA pump again and I told her that would not work on him, the dosage is to low, she says she got the dosage fixed and it would work so she hooked it up. She walked out, 20 minutes later he stopped breathing and his heart stopped, they did CPR to get him back, as they did CPR he vomited and aspirated into his lungs and ended up in ICU on a ventilator.
We knew there was a problem with the Catheter, but not how bad it was. We were the moved to a step down from ICU. This is when we started to see there was a big problem. There was something in his urine bag that looked like tissue. Then he was pooping pee and peeing poop, {sorry, no other way to put it}. He screamed for 2 days until we convinced them to run some test. They did an ultra sound and discovered he had a fistula {hole} between his Urethra and Rectum. He had to have an emergency Colostomy and a Supra Pubic Catheter. This was because the catheter was blown up in his Urethra instead of his Bladder.
This can be a life time injury. We have now located a Specialist in California that does only Urethra Reconstruction. He has agreed to take on Caiden's case. This is a real blessing. We feel like at least he has a chance.
Please, Please, keep him in your thoughts and prayers and help us make his final journey a complete success.
GOD BLESS YOU
