Harley Davidson has a factory direct buying program for Service Members. Almost all major military installations outside the contiguous US have a factory sales rep, but in Iraq we get some additional bennies. I can not only buy it factory direct and cut the dealer fees out of the deal, I can buy it tax free.
What's a guy to do? :dontknow: I love my X. In fact, every time I consider a new bike, I cannot justify it...just for a name...just to have a payment again...it would be cool to have some oil-stained pants though:roll:. Hell, I dont even get to ride very often.
Oh, well. Perty bikes just the same. Man, what a good deal! Tubby, see what you started!

Yea, high maintenance high cost air cooled bikes. I used to love HD's and think the same thing at times. When you come home and ride again you'll remember why you own an X

As strapped as I am, it would be really hard to turn down such a deal. I have nothing against HD - and have owned one. I just can't see paying $23K here, but if you got a deal there, you might wanna consider it. The only thing I have anything against is people who snub others because they think their brand is 'the only brand'. I've owned and ridden most of them and have enjoyed my 450, 550, 750, & 1100 Hondas, 1300 Kawasaki, and a lot more. I wouldn't hesitate to buy and ride (proudly) a new HD (at the right price). If you haven't ridden one for a while, you might be surprised how far they've come in the past 15 years or so. If you're the type ewho has to have a liquid-cooled, shaft-driven bike, then I say you are as narrow-minded as the type who only thinks HD is the way to go. Do what's right for you - and you owe it to yourself to check them all out first-hand, and not to take someone else's opinion as fact.
If I was rich, I's have a RoadKing, and a StreetGlide, and a Heritage Softtail, and a Spyder trike, and a GoldWing, and a Ducati, and.......the list goes on.
Personally, the Raider is "me" even though Karen doesn't like it. She (and I also) like the Shadow. I hope I never have to decide which "one" to keep.
The only VTX that ever struck my fancy is Todd's - not sure why. I've ridden several 1300' and 1800's, but none was really a 'good fit' for me.
A "cruiser" with a Busa power plant is interesting, though. I was just talking to a guy at work who runs sand rails and quads & he told me that the Busa power plant is the engine of choice and everyone is now building sand rails and quads with Busa engines. There's something to be said for that!
Sorry - back to the original thought..............
Knowing you as I do, I could easily see you (and your wife) riding on a Harley. BUT if you are a HD snob, ..................nevermind.
Pinhead :joke:

Jeez, Keevin, you just anounced that you were finally gonna tie the knot and now you talking about whether to keep Karen or the bike...:dontknow::yikes: LOL.
Maybe I should buy one of those sexy little leakers for a good deal and sell it...a bike that is. I'm not like Keevin.

I'm not at all ashamed to call Todd my friend...even if he has struck Keevin's fancy.
I've strucken' a fancy before; twice. I have two kids.
Sorry if any one is offended.

That sounds like a heckuva good deal, Butch. I would be tempted too brother. I would be seriously looking at a Street Glide or Road Glide. I haven't rented a Road Glide yet - that will be my next rental. It looks like I might be going to Atlanta for work and will have a day-off in the work schedule. I plan on renting and riding up to Deal's Gap to ride the Dragon's Tail.
If I ever get an HD, it will be a touring one, that's for sure. Would be nice to have for the 2-up rides and camping trips. I'll keep the X though & turn it into a chopper/bobber project and ride it to bike nights and day trips. 8)
Who sez you can't have the best of both world's - right?

Randy - was talking 'stock VTX's'. Todd's F-model, spec 3 is cool. For me, it stands out. Some people want long, low, mean & clean - others put every gatget imaginable (and a few that I had never imagined) on their bikes & then tow a trailer to haul more gadgets. I just like the look of Todd's bike - always have.
And, no, I didn't forget which forum this is. I've also made comments before that I like the look of Redhook's bike, but it is far from stock. He's got the low, mean, clean look going and I like it. Just one little guy's thoughts. I certainly wasn't putting anyone (or anyone's machine) down.
Maybe it's just 'cause he keeps his bike all clean & shiny while mine (and others) are covered with bugs and road grime.

Butch, GM was doing the same thing in the late 60's for us guys in 'Nam... I almost bought a new 1969 Pontiac GTO, JUDGE! But I already had a 1967, new when I was drafted GTO! Plus, Leslie and I got married during my 2 week leave just before going to 'Nam! I thought it over a bit and made the right call! Get my young _ss home first and deal with live here!!! Take care and see you soon!!! Ed1947

My Good Friend ran (past tense, he had to close it for health problems) the Eagle Rider Rental in Sedona.....He was not happy with the endless QC problems and breakdowns he had.....I don't think people got stranded, but it was always something going wrong. Unless you're a real good wrench, or rich, I'd stay away from HD. Honda and other riceburners are just reliable...(Another good friend in Wynatchee has a 900cc Triumph and it's been flawless for a couple years, too)
