Not necessarily on this board but its hard to go anywhere without running into someone bashing Vick & stating how he doesn't deserve to play in the NFL.
Donte Stallworth runs over a man with his car while drunk killing him & he gets 24 days in jail & is awaiting his suspension time from the NFL. Is it b/c Donte Stallworth isn't as recognized as Michael Vick or do people car more about dogs & other people?
Steve McNair was shot by his girlfriend while cheating on his wife, leaving his 4 children fatherless. The Tennessee Titans are "honoring" him by wearing a #9 on their helmet this season. :yikes:
I'm not taking up for Vick or condoning his actions but for all the criticism & hatred this man receives, you'd think you'd hear some grumblings about Stallworth & McNair.
opinions?

yeah,....he's a POS too. So are alot of pro-sports players. Do a google search,..the list is long.

I would have to care to have an opinion.
Talking about these scumbags only inflates their egos.

Heres my take, and I get your point...
While killing someone when driving drunk is a horrible thing,we hear about it all the time..We dont know the people involved,so it's not really an emotional hot button, unless of course something like that has happened to you.
Pretty much everyone has had a Dog,and are animal lovers,so they relate more readily to stories about abuse and torture of animals..

Our justice system is a simple process thats overwhelmed and corrupt to some extent. Society has boundaries and limits (laws of the land)
With Vick, its simple..............as much as we may hate him and what he has done. He was caught, served his time and it had nothing to do with football. If he gets contract with a team it wont make a rats ass to me.
With Stallworth, its simple as well. He shoud be in prison for the rest of his life for killing someone. It wasnt self defense. Has nothing to do with his profession or trade.
Unfortunately, when personal lives are brought in to the spotlight we all react in ways without knowing all the facts. Hell, we've all made stupid mistakes in our lives and unless it involved murder, rape, molestation and the like, you cant be condemned forever.
BTW, owners of professional sports teams tend to look past character flaws in exchange for talent. Many many examples of this over the years.

I think you make a very valid point. I think the sequence of events has alot to do with it also. America seems to have a very short memory and as new stories surface , past stories are soon forgotten. Sometime folks just need to be reminded.
When more people vote for and discuss American Idol , then those who participate in their own local elections and stay tuned in to local & national events , you just have to wonder where Americans priorities are ?

Like Michael Vick, I think Steve McNair paid his dues for his past behavior.

I 100% agree with the hatred for Donte' Stallworth, he should be in jail forever.
Have to disagree with the hatred for McNair though. That's a family issue, yes he cheated, but I don't think anyone deserves to die for cheating. I'm sure no one thinks that cheating is going to result in death. We have no idea what else was going on with his marriage before that cheating happened. Cheating is wrong, but nothing worth having the whole country hate ya over.
Killing someone and getting only 24 days in jail? Yeah he's a POS.

You are definitely right here.
One of the players Lane Kiffin is bringing to Tennessee next year is Daniel Hood, a 6-foot-5, 240-pound defensive end from Knoxville Catholic High. He is 19 years old, and a "model student on and off the field," with high grades and higher test scores. However, when Hood was 13 he was convicted of kidnapping and raping his 14-year-old cousin. His 17-year-old accomplice was tried as an adult and got 10 years in prison. Hood has been in the care of the state ever since.
Hood (who was 13 at the time) and a 17-year-old, wrapped his female cousin in duct tape and assaulted her. Prior to the Vols signing Hood, his Catholic school dean, principal, teachers, coaches, father and (even) the girl he raped vouched for him. Despite his conviction for "kidnapping and aggravated rape (http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2009/may/05/catholic-star-gets-ut-football-scholarship-despite/)", they all insist that Hood is the model kid now and that's he has paid and continues to pay the price for his actions.
In my opinion this kid should never have been given a scholarship at UT. If this kid has changed, that's great but I couldn't get past that.
As far as McNair. I don't think he should be hated by everyone in the country either. I don't think he should be honored by the NFL. Apparently he didn't honor anyone but himself & I think he's done enough of that. What he done was between him & his family & that's the way it should be. Leave us & the NFL out of it.
thanks for the replies

I have no respect for professional sports as an entity, and for most professional athletes as individuals. They are all overpaid, and most are immature, spoiled brat thugs. There have been some who seemed to be genuinely good people, like Roger Staubach for example, but they are few and far between IMO.
I save my admiration for people who do something to help their fellow human beings...like teachers, firefighters, nurses, paramedics, and LEOs. They are all underpaid. Shows how screwed up our priorities are.
