I crime to own!
(NO personal firearms in Australia)
I hope Obama doesn't get his way in America!
One year after gun-owners were forced to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed, including semi-automatic .22 rifles and shotguns, a program costing the government over 500 million dollars, the results are in...
A dramatic increase in criminal activity has been experienced. Gun control advocates respond "Just wait... we'll be safer... you'll see...".
OBSERVABLE FACT, AFTER 12 MONTHS OF DATA:
Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2%
Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6%
Australia-wide, armed-robberies are up 44% (yes, FORTY-FOUR PERCENT)
In the state of Victoria, homicides-with-firearms are up 300%
Figures over the previous 25 years show a steady decrease in homicides-with-firearms (changed dramatically in the past 12 months)
Figures over the previous 25 years show a steady decrease in armed-robbery-with-firearms (changed dramatically in the past 12 months)
There has been a dramatic increase in breakins-and-assaults-of- the-elderly
At the time of the ban, the Prime Minister said "self-defense is not a reason for owning a firearm"
From 1910 to present, homicides in Australia had averaged about 1.8-per-100,000 or lower, a safe society by any standard.
The ban has destroyed Australia's standings in some international sport shooting competitions
The membership of the Australian Sports Shooting Association has risen to 112,000, a 200% increase, in response to the ban and as an attempt to organize against further controls, which are expected.
Australian politicians are on the spot and at a loss to explain how no improvement in "safety" has been observed after such monumental effort and expense was successfully expended in "ridding society of guns". Their response has been to "wait longer".
"...The best organization you've got there, the biggest organization you've got there is the NRA. We don't have an organization that size. We didn't have an organization that size, and as a consequence, we suffered. And we hope that you don't suffer..."

The biggest threat to Australians, as a result of gun confiscation, is not crimes committed by fellow citizens. The much bigger threat is a tyrannical government like the Russians experienced during the Soviet years or Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge.
The Japanese army planed to invade Australia during WW II. The free world had to come to Australia's rescue. And, Australian citizens were armed then. They're a much easy target today.
It can happen there. It can happen here. Armed citizens is the best deterrent tyranny and invasion.
It's that "Well regulate militia" thing.

Actually, nobody came to our "rescue". The actual Japanese march south was stopped by Australian forces in Papua New Guinea. The Japanese push ended at Ioribaiwa. The Australians then chased them back over the Kokoda track all the way to the Papua New Guinea north coast, effectively clearing them from the country.
Many historians consider this a significant milestone in the Pacific War as it was the first time the Japanese had been turned on land in their push south.
Gen. Douglas MacArthur was based in Australia after leaving the Phillipines. The Allied forces used Australia as a staging area for the southern hemisphere and the push towards Japan through asia. Australia established one of the two prongs that lead to Japan with the US establishing the other.

Just to throw some accurate statistics out there. These are from Australian Institute of Criminology.
Homicide victims from 1993 to 2007 (number per year)
http://www.aic.gov.au/en/statistics/~/media/publications/facts/2008/2008/fig012.ashx?w=600&h=344&as=1
Homicides involving firearms as a percentage of total homicides, 1915-2003
http://www.aic.gov.au/en/statistics/~/media/publications/facts/2006/fig013.ashx?w=599&h=326&as=1
As you can see that not only has the number of homicides involving firearms decreased, but so has the total number of homicides.
Don't get me wrong, I do believe that people should have the right to possess firearms, but I do believe in strict gun control.

Let's not forget that prick, PM Churchill............forget Australia, we can buy her back after the war. Gen. Douglas MacArthur helped save this nation.

About in the same way as Australia saved England and France in WW1. A small contribution (not small literally) to the greater cause. Strategically speaking Australia's importance was being the springboard into Asia and the only stable western democracy in the southern hemisphere.
