Just put in new steering head bearings this afternoon and replaced the junk stock 1300 ones. What a difference no more play in the bars feels like a new bike. Not bad for $30 and 3 hours

Any special tools required? I want to do this over the winter season.

I just put a set in on my Valk I/S but it was more difficult that yours,.... I had to remove the fairing and stuff. Still have it apart, rebuilding forks and waiting for fork bushings to arrive. Figured if I had it torn down this far, I might as well and do it all. I have the steering head nut socket that is used to torque it down, but believe others have used large sockets... 1 1/4" or something like that.
Oh, and if you ever intend to rebuild your forks (especially on a bike 10 years old), go ahead and order the bushings when you order the seals..... My local dealer price matched DLP's prices, so it works out good for me, but still had to be ordered.

Yeah the hardest part was taking of the windsheild, lowers and the mounting brackets that decided to come one with the uper forks  the bearing were simple in comparison
I believe it is a 1 11/16 inch socket didn't have one so I used channel locks and when by directions from the tech or how to forum
As far as the bushings for the forks been there done that you only make that mistake once nothing like having the bike apart and having to wait for more parts

I might need to borrow it when I re-torque them later down the road
