I have been remiss and haven't gotten on the OA in a while and post this up. Dave G and I completed the Iron Butt on 9/19.
Details;
1033 miles
Avg. speed - 70.7 mph
stop time - 4 hours
avg stop time - 20 minutes (one 30 minute lunch)
total stop w/ start & stop 10
total time - 19 hours 10 minutes
Great ride, great roads. I really enjoyed this, going into Friday night I was really wondering what the hell I was getting myself into. I've done some 750 mile runs, but never where i just constantly pushed it. I could'nt have picked better roads and the guy that went with me (Dave G from MMR)(only guy on a Yamaha) matched my riding style perfectly.
Started out at 3:00am and it was a bit chilly. I was prepared since I put on my winter parka, baclava, heavy gloves and a warm fleece underneath (oh yeah and my full face). Maybe it was overkill, but I NEVER got cold. Dave and I were the ONLY people on the road between Madison and Des Moines. We took a page from Broch and Lance's book and took both lanes to light up the road.
(SIDENOTE... Dave was running a PIAA headlight and I had the Sylvania Silverstar....hands down the PIAA was 10x better....I will definately change mine out this winter)
From Des Moines...380, 80, 680 to Omaha (29) ( I honestly thought we were in Nebraska, but when I looked at the map...nope)(we were so close I could have gotten gas on the WEST side of 29 and could mark Nebraska off my states map http://www.northstarriders.com/phpbb/images/smilies/icon_redface.gif )
Omaha to Sioux Falls on 29....construction here that slowed us down bit.
Sioux Falls (90) back to Madison
Except in the AM and again in the later PM we averaged 80 (actual) on the interstate. In the morning and night we were around 70-72. The bike handeld great, no problems at all. Only glitch was the full open throttle, sucked up the gas like crazy http://www.northstarriders.com/phpbb/images/smilies/22yikes.gif kept hitting reserve around 126 and then when we hit 90 in SW Minn. and the headwind...went down to 116.
Would i do it again....you bet....already have my eyes set for the BB1500 next year.
