I know that a couple of you guys are in the south Georgia area and thought you might be interested... looks like VorTexX and I will be heading up to Columbia on Friday to get some bbq. If any of you would like to join us we will be leaving Jax at 8A on Friday and travelling on...

I hope we get a response for once. Be nice to have a group

Yes, it would be great to get a group going but I know that it is kinda hard from some folks to go during the week.

Dave,
Here's hoping that we can ride together sometime. I will be back from TN on the 15th. The dear husband should have his bike by then and we should get together. He has always wanted to go to that aviation museum in GA.

I went to Amelia Island and then on to Fenandina today alone, by myself, just me :( to put 100 miles on my new seat as the package suggested. Oh it was sooo nice. Got poured on coming back though.

That sounds like fun... I was buying an 1800R for my husband. I am poor now.

I have GOT to get a wife like that!!

Looks like you got your ultimate seat. Looks good. Here's hoping the hurricane does not screw up our ride. Oh yeah... if we don't make it to Columbia, I won't be heart broken but if we do, great. I am still in a state of shock over the latest purchase. He can't wait to get home.... wanna ride with us if he gets home in time and the weather permits? Hopefully he will get home in time on Saturday to sign the papers and pick up the bike so that we can ride Labor Day. If not, we can't pick it up until Tuesday (why are dealerships closed on Labor Day?? Wouldn't people off from work want to look at bikes??) but even if that happens we could ride that evening. Getting him off of it will be a challenge.

Just realized that last sentence doesn't sound right... I meant off of the bike.

Is my face red???

Below is the time enroute per map quest

Total Est. Time: 4 hours, 49 minutes Total Est. Distance: 288.97 miles

That will be 10 hrs of riding. Through in a meal and 2 or 3 stops for gas and you have a 13 hrs day easy.
It will be a test alright.

Fathead007

If we are meeting at Perkins probably the easiest route would be to hit 295 north off of San Jose to I-95 to I-26W. I travel to TN on a regular basis and this is the route I take. I am REALLY familiar with it and 295 is pretty fast though I am not sure how a.m traffic will be. Usually not too bad.

BTW, you're only a little pink!

WHOOOooooooWeeeeeeeee! 13 hours? "Test" is putting it mildly!
Have you guy's ever ridden like that before? My limit for "enjoyment" is about 5 hours and you don't have to rock me to sleep after that.

I am beginning to rethink the whole 10 hour thing and cutting it down to about 6... unless we get a hurricane and then my plans will depend on what my husband is doing and if he will getting home from NYC or if I am leaving the area. Hurricanes have bad timing!

09-01-2004, 04:02 PM
I think you are right to rethink this. If we get to go at all we have to think about getting back before the rains start.
What do you think about Savannah and back? That would be about 4 or 5 hours total and still get to eat and rest a bit in Savannah. Lots of good restaurants at the warf.

I would not mind running up to Savannah on Friday if you guys are going to go and my bike is out of the shop. I am still waiting for them to get the part in so they can fix it. Supposedly the part is supposed to come in tomorrow (thursday) and my bike is supposed to be on the top of the list to be fixed.

I was supposed to go to North Carolina this weekend so I have Friday off, but the hurricane blew those plans out of the water. No NC trip, but I would not mind doing a day trip. The hurricane should not affect us until saturday if you can believe the forcasts.

Fathead007
09-01-2004, 07:27 PM
Savannah sounds great IF the hurricane does not affect us too much OR my husband does not tell me that I need to go north. If that is the case then I will be riding up to TN maybe via Atlanta or if he is diverted to Atlanta or Charleston I may meet him there... who knows. I will keep you guys posted but I am definately up for Savannah!!

The longest I have done was 8.5 hrs on a Honda 250 scrambler. It was winter and 15 degrees F. I thought I would die. And I was a lot younger.

Hmmm... The longest ride so far on my X is 5 hours. I have spent a full day on the back and I think my butt was numb. The coldest ride... was on the back of my best friends magna in the Smokies... leathers, long johns, wool socks and I still froze... the high that day was 35. Ugh!

09-01-2004, 10:40 PM
I have to admit that the temp didn't start out that cold. It was tolerable when I started but about 4 hours into the ride and half way home with no turning back it began to rain and the temp plummeted. I was on my way home on a weekend leave so getting a room was out of the question.(no time, no money) and I just didn't want to turn back so I pressed on. Never never again.

So how is tomorrow looking? From the weather forcast today they look like they have moved up the landfall times. Also, the raido this morning was talking about 95 north being slammed with evacuations and stuff. If it is not looking likely, I may try to get the Honda place to sit on the bike until Tuesday even if they do get it done. Would rather have it sitting in their building during the hurricane then in the parking lot of my apartment.

Until I get a seat that fits me and my back properly it is about an hour of riding 20 minutes of rest. You know government workers! More breaks the better....... :D

Hmm, I did not know that is how government workers were supposed to do it. Being a government worker I thought it was all breaks and try to fit some work in once in a while.

I just put my Ultimate X lowrider on and put 110 miles on it. Best money I have spent.

There you go Dave! You need to hook up with vortexx and try that saddle out! I just love watching you spend money!

I won't be joining you guys... I am going north. Catcha when I get back!

Michael

Oh, I wasn't referring to tomorrow. I think we will get weather regardless of the storms path. I think Dave and I both are planning on staying inside somewhere for a while. He has been getting the itch for a new saddle though and he is a big guy. I'm thinking when he sits on an ultimate he will be strocking a check.

Be careful on the roads. There are alot of upset people out there and they aren't paying attention! Good luck.

That does it then. The ride is a bust.

Michael
09-02-2004, 02:51 PM
I live about 1.5 miles from 95 so I drove to the overpass and I-95 is jammed in the northbound lane. I haven't seen hwy 17 but my guess is it will be the same way. Bad weekend to be on the road.

09-02-2004, 03:40 PM
I agree. I am going to stay home, drink a beer or two and polish my bike rather than abuse her in the rain sleet, muck and goo of the roadways and possible rash caused by other metalic objects.

Hey Guys,
Just thought I would check in... rode to TN on my X... left around 1P on Thursday and beat the traffic and gas shortage. Rode to Newberry SC and spent the night, arrived in east TN early Friday morning!! Yesterday we rode to Middlesboro, KY on our bikes... it was so AWESOME riding those winding roads. The X is doing okay though I am going to have to rejet the engine when I get back. Hope you all are doing okay with the weather!

Hey Guys,

Looks like we are getting a bit of Frances today and tomorrow but should clear on Thursday for a nice weekend. Should be interesting to see what Ivan does. Hope you all are great and have weathered the storms well. Here's hoping we can get together and get a little road trip going after this horrible weather passes!
