John,
I understand that a side-mount license plate must be horizontal not vertical to pass the PA Inspection. I've had my horizontal side-mount for ~2 years without any problems.

You haven't told us how your plate is situated. I've heard that the plate has to be horizonal too. But so far I can't find where it says that yet. I looked here http://www.pacode.com/secure/data/067/chapter175/subchapHtoc.html and didn't see anything. However that dosen't mean it isn't noted in some other inspection material. You have me interested so I'll do some research tomorrow and get back to you when I pin it down.

I have a hard-tail KZ750 with a vertical sidemount plate, have had it inspected twice in Pa...it was never asked about...Put it on, and forget about it!

saw a crotch rocket the other day with the plate mounted under the rear fender in FRONT of the rear tire. I could barely see the plate from the side of the bike - no way to see it from the rear. Can't believe the cops haven't nailed him on that one.
