Can anyone tell me honestly if you think it is a good idea to drill my stock pipes. So far I 'm really not thrilled with some of the aftermarket stuff...
Thanks for your time,
Jim

Hey Jim,
My advice is to keep looking around, listening, and download a few audio clips from www.kingofthecruisers.com (http://www.kingofthecruisers.com) before you mod your pipes. I drilled out mine doing the 'progressively larger' method: Drilling, listening, then drilling larger until I realized that it was still going to sound like a metric bike with the stockers. I did get a decent volume and it's a better sound overall, but it's not even close to being mildy thrilling nevermind 'Harley-esk'.
I've heard Jardine, Vance, and Shogun pipes in person and have found the Jardine and Shogun pipes to be the best sound (with quiet baffles). I'm trying to find someone with Cobra Slashcuts before I make the plunge myself.
Hope this helps,

Six 1/2 " holes sounds nice to me. There are enough stock pipes for cheap around if you screw up. Also a guy on Martha's Vineyard that mods the stock pipes....nice price too...find him on the Ma. VTX'rs site.
