This Ride will be on Saturday October 9th... I am thinking our best bet for a staging area would be the McDonalds in Lancaster, It is one of the biggest ones I have seen with lots of room for the bikes and it would expedite getting the ride started vs. a restaurant where we would have people waiting around for checks and limited restroom facilities. We should set the time for noon to allow the riders from farther out time to get there with "AIS" (arse in saddle) no later that 1:00 PM... what do you all think ?
It would be easy to find (right on 33 on the south end of town) and we could run 37 & 664 down to the Hocking Hills area which would be a great ride as well.
There were some comments that last years ride was too short and I agree. but the reasoning behind that was that a lot of folks wanted to ride back home the same evening so It would be ideal to plan a overnight stay in the area if you can. I would say we can plan a pitstop for those that want to ride home that evening to say our good-byes and the rest of us that live a little closer or plan to spend the night can get a few more miles in... how does that sound ?
Fellow X-Rider Rick Freemal (Irishman) came up with a great ride route and created some maps that you can view and/or print which are posted on his website... http://freemal.homeip.net/Roads/Fall_Co ... Colors.htm (http://freemal.homeip.net/Roads/Fall_Colors_04/FallColors.htm)
Lancaster 37 to 664, 664 to 56 (go over 33). 56 to 278 to Nelsonville (same gas station as last yr) Rest stop. 278 to 33 south. 33 South to 78. 78 to Murry city to Glouster & 329. 329 to Amesville to 550*. 550* to 33 and Athens.
Or take 550 to 690 to 50 into Athens.
This comes out to be 110 miles & will take about 3 to 4 hours with stop & roads. Ends in Athens so those staying can get hotel. Take a look at maps on his web and let us know what you think !
