I am putting together a ride to Deals Gap in October ( dates pending)with a few friends, leaving on a Friday, and coming back on Sunday. Anyone interested?
I did Colorado this year with the X'rs, and am itching to get back to the mountains.
BTW: this pic was at 14,600 feet and the X did fine...

I was talking with a buddy at work about this. We were thinking about going Columbus Day weekend. Not sure what our schedule would be, but we could meet up there or something and ride a run or two.
I wish I could fit it in. I would have loved to have ridden Colorado too.
I've been to Deals Gap (maybe you have to so if I'm telling you anything you already know, I apologize) and it's great. The whole area has fantastic roads. A great book I picked up before I went, and October is great for changing colors, is at http://www.milestonepress.com/html/bk_moto2.html
Its got 26 different rides for that area (Motorcycle Adventures in the Southern AppalachiansĀ*: Asheville NC, The Blue Ridge Parkway, NC High Country). If you haven't already seen it elsewhere on this site, here's a video site with a day and night ride of Deals Gap. http://www.gormanonline.com/greg/publicvideos.aspx
If your not a curve attacker, don't worry, it's still excellent and there's plenty of cruisers that relax through it but I thought my VTX was perfect for it because I just kept 2nd totally wound as much as possible and then had its tremendous engine braking to help through the corners and great torque out of the corners. I was catching and passing sport bikes, not the one in the video though. Instead of 318 curves in 11 miles, it was more like 300 foot pegs in 11 miles. It works out where the Gap is an agressive 2nd and 3rd gear road and the great ones you take to get to it are agressive 3rd and 4th gear roads.
Have fun. I know you will.

How does the first weekend of October sound? Check your calander for a Friday, Saturday and come back Sunday ride. We wait till the leaf changes and motel prices triple. Date is pending due to majority rule.

Columbus Day is on the second weekend of October. I am still hammering out details with my buddy at work and trying to coordinate with the 'rents.
Ok, let me know what you decide.

Don't know if you noticed but there's a guy on Central Floridas board out of St Pete going to the Dragon this weekend also and looking for riders. I think he picked up one and looking for others. It's IRONMORPH.

Hey XRATED, we are leaving St Pete for Deals Gap at 5am Saturday Morning, which would put us near you (I75/I10) at about 8:30 am. We would be glad to meet you somewhere along the way. We are staying at TWO motorcycle lodge, may camp there weather pending. We are returning on Monday morning to St Pete. PM me I'll give you my cell if you want to connect,

Hi Everyone,
Me and my bud are taking off on Friday to head up to the 'rents house in SC. We are then headed up to the dragon on Saturday to put around and then headed back down to SC in the late afternoon. Let me know if you guys want to meet up somewhere. If you want to send a PM, I can give out the cell number if that would help.
